The City of Americus' Code of Ordinances requires all garbage to be placed in sealed water tight bags and then placed into the trash container for collection.

Please share with everyone that the only trash being collected now is what is in your trash container due to COVID-19. This is causing debris to be left at the road and not collected. Help spread the word so our streets look and stay clean.

The city of Americus was established as the county seat of Sumter County in 1832. We are a town full of history with a constant eye toward the future.

NOTICE: The City of Americus is currenlty only collecting trash that will fit in your trash container with the lid closed.

If you have more trash than will fit into your trash container on collection day, please store it in a place where it cannot be accessed by animals. When your trash container is empty place the trash into your container for your next collection day.

PLEASE do not leave your trash container at the curb/street. It is a City of Americus Ordinance that you must return your trash container back to the house on collection day.

The City of Americus can still issue building permits and perform inspections. We can process permits electronically. During inspections we are keeping our distance from homeowners and contractors for everyone's safety.

PLEASE be smart about the COVID-19 virus and stay home if you can and away from large groups of people.

With spring on the horizion comes grass cuttiing. Please do not blow your clippings into the street. It clogs storm water drains and is unsightly. Using a mulching blade on your mower helps your lawn and eliminates having to pick up the grass clippings.

The City of Americus / Code Enforcement is looking for vendors to bid on cleaning up parcels within the City limits of Americus. Otten we need grass cut, trash removed, and sometimes structures boarded up on privately owned property. For more information on how to become a vendor please come to our office at 101 West Lamar Street. We are located on the 2nd Floor.

The State of Georgia has prompted a Level 1 Drought Response for the Americus Georgia area. This is to remind the public to conserver water.
We are required under the Water Stewardship Act of 2010 to limit outdoor water use year-round to the hours between 4pm and 10am.

Please conserve water and help us keep Americus Clean and Safe.

We are having a Clean Up Day on Saturday September 21, 2019. We will be starting from the Municipal Building at 101 West Lamar Street around 9:00am. We are giving out free T-shirts and there will be a scavenger hunt with prizes!!!
