The Smarr-Smith Foundation, a consistent advocate for local Law Enforcement in the Americus/Sumter County area, has generously provided new body cameras to Georgia Southwestern Public Safety, a Real Narc device to the Americus Police Department, and holsters to the Sumter County Sheriff's Department.
We extend our gratitude to the Smarr-Smith Foundation for their continued support of local Law Enforcement and their investment in our community.

Each year freshmen students receive a silver challenge coin from the GSW President at their Freshman Convocation, an event signifying the beginning of their college journey. They are challenged to make the most of their experience at Georgia Southwestern and upon graduation, to give the silver coin to someone who has made a difference or impacted them during their college journey. Receiving a challenge coin from a student is indeed an honor and a priviledge. Chief Micheal Lewis received a challege coin from Breanna McCready prior to her graduation on May 7, 2026. Breanna is a Criminal Justice major who was employed by GSW Public Safety during her time at GSW. Thank you Chief Lewis for making a difference.

Last evening, we had the distinct honor of celebrating the Officer of the Year at the Smarr-Smith Foundation Gala. This year presented a notable and unique development: in recognition of the diligent efforts, unwavering dedication, and profound commitment to Georgia Southwestern State University demonstrated by all officers and personnel, the award was collectively accepted by our Department. I extend my sincere gratitude to every individual within the GSW Public Safety Department for their consistent dedication and for consistently exceeding expectations in their service to others. Furthermore, I wish to express our appreciation to the Smarr-Smith Foundation for their ongoing support of Law Enforcement.
