Today we’re proud to march in the Ames Fourth of July Parade, representing not only Ames Professional Fire Fighters Local 625, but also our families and the incredible community we have the privilege to serve.

Every day, our members answer the call to protect the citizens of Ames, and today we’re honored to celebrate alongside you as we recognize the freedoms we enjoy and the community that makes this city such a special place to call home.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the parade and to all those who continue to support your local firefighters throughout the year. Your trust means everything to us.

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸

Today, we proudly celebrate 250 years of American independence and honor the freedoms that make our nation so special. As we gather with family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy parades, cookouts, fireworks, and time together, Ames Professional Fire Fighters Local 625 wishes everyone a safe and memorable Fourth of July.

As we celebrate, please keep these holiday safety reminders in mind:

🎆 Leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible. If consumer fireworks are used, follow all local laws, keep a water source nearby, and never allow young children to handle fireworks.

🔥 Keep grills at least 10 feet away from homes, decks, and anything that can catch fire. Never leave a grill unattended.

🚗 Don’t drink and drive. Designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service to ensure everyone gets home safely.

🌊 If you’re spending time on the water, wear a life jacket and keep a close eye on children at all times.

🌡️ Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and take breaks from the heat.

Our members are honored to serve the Ames community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year—even on holidays. While many of us will be away from our own families today, we’re proud to stand ready to answer the call whenever you need us.

⚠️Flash Floods⚠️

The Ames area is experiencing significant rainfall, and flash flooding is occurring in several locations. Please use extra caution if you must travel today.

Remember:
🚗 Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Never drive through flooded roadways. It only takes a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle away, and the road beneath the water may be washed out.

⚠️ Slow down and give yourself extra stopping distance on wet roads.

🚧 Obey all road closure signs and barricades. They’re there to protect you.

🌊 Stay away from creeks, drainage ditches, and other fast-moving water, especially with children and pets.

🔦 If flooding threatens your home, move to higher ground and avoid walking through floodwater, which may contain debris, sewage, or hidden hazards.

📱 Monitor local weather alerts and be prepared for changing conditions throughout the day.

Our firefighters and first responders are ready to respond, but you can help keep everyone safe by avoiding unnecessary travel and making smart decisions around floodwaters.

As we conclude the 102nd Iowa Professional Fire Fighters Convention, our Union’s elected representatives are left with an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude.

What was unmistakable throughout the three-day event was the unity and bond between the attendees. Whether it was your first convention or twentieth, you’re a seasoned old dog or new to the line, or you’re from an urban or rural department, when the IAFF membership comes together, there is a shared level of connection and purpose. This year was no different - meaningful work was accomplished and friendships were formed and rekindled

Thank you to Waterloo Firefighters IAFF L66 for all their work in hosting another successful convention.

Firefighters Henderson, Leverton, Silva, Trogu, and Ingram thank the members of Local 625 for allowing us the honor of representing our group this year.

$16,344.24 raised for the Muscular Dystrophy Association!

The Ames Professional Fire Fighters Local 625 MDA Charity Golf Outing at Coldwater Golf Links was an incredible success!

At this time, we have raised north of $16,100 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association — and we are STILL tallying donations and final numbers.

We are beyond thankful for every golfer, sponsor, donor, volunteer, business, and community member who came together to support families fighting neuromuscular disease. Your generosity and support continue to make a real impact.

Stay tuned for the official final total in the coming days. 👏
