Live Music Alert!!

On June 15, 2026, Luciano Antonio, a Brazilian Jazz Artist, will be performing at First Baptist Church, 200 Lynn Ave. in Ames. The show will begin at 7PM and there will be a free will offering that will benefit Good Neighbor Emergency Assistance! Concessions will be available. The concert is free and all are welcomed!

Come out and hear some excellent music, and tell your friends!

GNEA is looking for a Half time (20hrs) Program Assistant to assist with data entry, client contacts and social media/website work. Shift is 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and pay is $22/hr.

We had a GREAT Block Party on Sunday May 17. We had between 400 and 450 people attending between 4 and 7: We passed out 40 Large Pizzas from Little Caesars, Jeff's Pizza Shop, and Perfect Games. We also gave out like 20 Dozen Cookies from Hy-Vee and Wheatsfield Cooperative. We even had Water Coolers and water provided by Ames Public Works and the Water Works. Thank you to the Sponsors who provided our food!

In addition, we had Perfect Strangers - Ames Band as our Entertainment for the Afternoon! Excellent work on the Show. It was loved by everyone I talked to on Sunday (and some on Monday!) and you all are definitely invited back to play next year. And we had Queen Bee Face Painting LLC for facepainting and balloon animals for the Kids.

We also had KHOI Community Radio present to broadcast the show and do interviews, Central Iowa RSVP supplied volunteers, Severson Insurance Agency, Inc supplied our Insurance for the event and the Knights of Columbus from Saint Cecilia Parish - Ames, IA provided volunteer support for our road guard positions. And I cannot forget Downtown Ames Fareway Stores, who donated the parking lot and the electricity for the band and the Radio remote.

I want to also thank our local community organizations for helping us make this event a great event (NAMI Central Iowa , Martha's House of Hope, The Bridge Home - Two Rivers Region, Ames Romero House, Raising Readers in Story County, Story County Public Health, Center for Creative Justice and Legal Aid Society of Story County, all of whose participation in the event made it a lot of fun and very informative to those who came in to the Block Party.

Finally, I want to especially thank my Board and all those who volunteered their time and more importantly their sweat to the event to make it one of our best Block Parties yet! Next year we will build on this success and will have it be even better. Next year is our 30th Anniversary. It's gonna be excellent. Thank you everyone for coming this year, and We hope to see you again next year!
