Community organizing works.

Last night the Ames City Council approved a 9 month moratorium on the proposed data center, along with expanding what they’ll be studying before making any future decisions!!

This didn’t happen overnight. It happened because people organized. They knocked doors, made phone calls, handed out flyers, spoke at meetings, shared information, and kept showing up even when it felt like an uphill battle.

A ginormous thank you to everyone who has been part of this effort. Celebrate the win, we’ve absolutely earned it.

Now we keep going!!

Come learn, share ideas, meet several local organizations in downtown Ames, enjoy the community potluck at Bandshell Park, and find ways to get involved right here in Ames.

Quad Cities Democratic Socialists of America is running a campaign called Trans Sanctuary Davenport: we want Davenport, Iowa to pass an ordinance that protects people who are receiving or providing gender-affirming or reproductive healthcare. At a time when the State of Iowa and the Federal Government are restricting the rights of trans people and denying them healthcare, along with further restricting access to abortion, we work to ensure that the third-largest city in Iowa will do whatever they can to protect bodily autonomy and not submit to external pressure. 🏳️‍⚧️

Please add your name or your organization's name to call for the Davenport City Council and Mayor Jason Gordon to acknowledge the will of our community—their constituents!—and pass the ordinance to protect bodily autonomy. 🌹
