Recently, multiple MGMC EMS ambulances were dispatched by the Story County Sheriff's Office to a burn-related incident. MGMC EMS responded with Story City/Lafayette Township First Responders and Story City Fire Department.

Upon arrival, crews identified two teenage patients with significant burn injuries. Both patients were assessed and treated on scene, with one patient being transported by ground ambulance and another requiring air medical transport to a burn center.

We are grateful for the teamwork and support from Story City/Lafayette Twp. First Responders, Story City Fire Department, Story City Police Department, LifeFlight Des Moines, and the dispatchers at the Story County Sheriff’s Office.

This incident serves as a reminder that burn injuries can happen quickly and unexpectedly. Taking fire safety precautions around open flames and outdoor fires can significantly reduce risk. Stay safe everyone!

Today is Save a Life Day!

As we continue through EMS Week we are showcasing some of our equipment we use to save lives! Namely the LUCAS Device, the Zoll X-Series Cardiac Monitor, and the Sapphire IV Pumps!

The LUCAS Device performs chest compressions at a constant rate and depth for an extended period of time. When a cardiac arrest happens, good chest compressions are detrimental to patient survival. This device allows providers to have another set of hands free while perfect compressions are being performed. 💓

Our Zoll X‑Series Cardiac Monitor, soon to be replaced by the new Zoll Zenix, allows us to take patient vitals, perform 4 and 12 lead cardiac monitoring, monitor expired carbon dioxide levels, and much more. The upcoming Zenix monitors will expand these capabilities even further, giving us more tools to assess and treat patients quickly and accurately.

Last but certainly not least, all of our trucks have multiple Sapphire IV pumps. These amazing devices allow providers to administer dozens of infusion medications at extremely precise rates, ensuring safe and accurate dosing during critical care transports.

Every piece of equipment we carry is vital to improving patient outcomes, keep an eye out for more videos to come today!

Here we go with another day of EMS Week!

Today we’re celebrating EMS for Children Day. We’re excited to talk some of the pediatric‑focused equipment we use to keep our smallest patients safe and cared for.

To start, we carry Ferno NeoMate and PediMate devices, which are designed to help keep the little ones safe during transport. The NeoMate is designed to secure children 5-14lbs and the PediMate is designed to secure children 10-100lbs. 👶

We also have extensive monitoring equipment including pediatric blood pressure cuffs pediatric, cardiac monitoring stickers in the event they need additional monitoring, and pediatric pulse oximetry devices, which are sticky so little hands can't pull them off.

Those are just some of the things that we carry for the pediatric calls that we see. See you guys tomorrow!

As EMS Week continues, today we’re taking a moment to recognize EMS Safety Day. We’re using this day to highlight the importance of vehicle safety.

Our crews respond to, quite literally, hundreds of motor vehicle accidents every year. We have learned that a vast majority of those accidents involve those who are either A) unrestrained, or B) distracted while driving.

With that being said we urge everyone to fasten their seatbelts and remain alert while driving. Taking your eyes off the road for just a couple seconds can lead to tragedy! 📱

See everybody tomorrow as we continue through the week!
