Help us welcome Casey Greufe as our new Water Quality and Outreach Specialist! Casey conducted research on water quality and nutrient management at the University of Maryland, where he worked with farmers to reduce nutrient pollution in the Chesapeake Bay. He is passionate about building community through environmental stewardship and is especially excited to return to his home state to work on water quality issues that affect all Iowans.

The White-Lined Sphinx Moth can be commonly found in urban settings like parks and gardens. While they are nocturnal, they can be seen at dusk and dawn and occasionally during the day. With their large bodies and flying patterns, they are often mistaken for hummingbirds, especially when they are using their long proboscis to drink nectar. Their wingspan is roughly 2-3 inches, and their hindwings are pink with dark borders. They have a wide variety of host plants, including evening primrose (oenothera spp), which is available in our native seed bank! The May Newsletter is out! Check it out on our website, linked in the comments.
