Great news, Amesbury!

MEVA has expanded service with the new Circulator Route (30), making it easier than ever to get around town. The route now connects you to:

• Amesbury Park
• Carriage Hill Apartments
• Amesbury High School

Service Hours:
• Monday–Friday: Runs every hour from 6:10 AM to 6:20 PM (with a midday pause from 11:20 AM to 2:10 PM)

• Saturday: Runs every hour from 8:10 AM to 5:20 PM

Trash Sticker Reminders

If you have already submitted your application online through OpenGov, please log in and check to see if it has moved to the payment step. There are currently over 400 applications waiting for payment before a sticker can be distributed.

You may now also pay at DPW and receive your sticker in-person. Payment by check only. Please have your permit number written in the memo. Cash and credit cards are not accepted at DPW.

Placement of Stickers:
1. Make sure the area directly above the serial number on the front of the trash cart is clean and dry.
2. Remove backing from sticker.
3. Adhere sticker above serial number as shown in image.

⚡🚲 E-BIKES: KNOW BEFORE YOU RIDE

E-bikes are becoming a common sight around Amesbury, especially with younger riders. They’re a great way to get around, but riders and parents should know the rules.

🔹 Massachusetts recognizes Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes, limited to 750 watts and motor assistance up to 20 mph.

🔹 Sidewalks are off limits for e-bikes.

🔹 Traffic laws still apply. Stop signs and red lights aren't suggestions just because you're on two wheels.

🔹 Helmets are required for riders 16 and younger and they're a good idea for everyone.

⚠️ Not everything advertised as an “e-bike” legally qualifies as one. Some electric bikes are capable of higher speeds or have more powerful motors and may fall into a different category under Massachusetts law.

Parents: Before buying one for your child, check the motor wattage, maximum assisted speed and classification.

E-bikes are heavier, accelerate faster and can move quickly. Know what you're riding, follow the rules and ride safely. 🚲⚡

On September 28th at 10:30 AM, the Sheriff’s Department will be hosting a Senior Bullying Presentation—an informative session focused on recognizing, addressing, and preventing bullying among older adults. This is a great opportunity to learn helpful strategies, ask questions, and connect with others in a supportive environment.

When you get a moment, please log in to your OpenGov account to see if your payment step is now active. Once it is, you can complete your application by submitting your payment.

If your payment step isn’t active yet, no worries! Our DPW team is still verifying addresses. OpenGov will notify you as soon as your payment step becomes available.

Attention Seniors! Check out this super fun event scheduled for 9/21.

Car Show and Lunch at the COA, featuring a DJ spinning classic 1950’s hits in the back parking lot. Lunch begins at 11:30, and the Car Show with DJ kicks off at 12:00.

Please note that parking is limited. We kindly ask you to park at the Water Street Lot; the COA will pick you up and bring you to the event. The van can also pick you up directly from home.

Cold weather = life jacket season!

Amesbury paddlers, here’s your friendly reminder: from September 15 through May 15, canoeists, kayakers and paddle boarders are required to wear a properly fitted life jacket (Mass General Law Chapter 90B Section 5A).

Cold water can be no joke, even when the air feels surprisingly nice. So, before you launch, grab your PFD, zip it up, and enjoy the water safely!

Stay warm. Stay smart. And keep that life jacket on!

Just as a reminder. Fall hydrant flushing continues. Schedules are posted weekly on the city website.

Fall hydrant flushing will begin on Tuesday, September 1st and will continue for approximately 5 weeks.

Hydrant flushing is performed twice a year to remove accumulated sediment that occurs in the pipes.

When hydrant flushing is in progress, you may lose water temporarily, experience air in your pipes, or experience brown/discolored water. Water will be restored shortly after the flushing is complete in your area. You may need to run your water briefly to clear the air or the discoloration from your pipes.
