2nd part to previous post Thank you to all of our brothers and sisters for volunteering your time away from your jobs, your loved ones and stepping up when you are needed. And thank you to our county dispatchers for listening to the tough calls, organizing first responders and being our lifeline while we are out responding to emergencies."

Last night 8/17/2026 The Ames-Bern-Amesville VFD responded to a total of 5 emergency calls. 2 water rescue a power line down a CPR in progress call all of the calls we had to work around debris, trees down and flood water on our narrow back roads while maintaining a 10-15 minute response time to each call of which most were over lapping. Stretching our small department to our limits. What you overhear on the scanner is only part of the story. Please be considerate of those involved in the crisis, like our volunteers, they have families worried about them too. The county is served by 12 volunteer departments and only 2 paid fire stations. Our volunteers are out in poor conditions risking their own safety for their communities. We have a shortage of volunteers. Please consider joining your local fire department rather than posting what you think you hear on a scanner.
