This evening NAFC trained/refreshed on FAST skills. A FAST team (Firefighter Assist and Search team) is tasked solely with rescuing downed firefighters should the need arise. NAFC maintains a practicing FAST team with FAST equipment and training, whether it be for a brother/sister from a neighboring agency or one of our own members.

This evening NAFC and Wendelville Fire Company drilled together on surface water rescue. Each company practiced rescuing victims utilizing several different techniques including throw bags, RDC (Rapid Deployment Craft), and NAFCs rescue boat. Training on surface water rescue is crucial as we turn to the summer months and an increase in activity on our local waterways

Last evening NAFC trained on large area victim search techniques. This training is vital to more efficiently conduct victim search in larger, more open spaces within structures. Planning, communication, and orientation are all vital to an effective large area search operation. NAFC covers some commercial buildings with large open spaces inside, and even more of these buildings are housed in surrounding fire districts.

Great work by one of our own, NAFC Lieutenant and AFC dispatcher Stephen Stoeckl!

The Town of Amherst is filled with everyday heroes!

I want to recognize Dispatcher Stephen Stoeckl of Amherst Central Fire Alarm, who helped assist in the delivery of a baby girl on April 22nd. 👶💗 While the Clarence Fire Company was being dispatched, Stephen remained on the phone with the caller, providing calm guidance and reassurance during the childbirth.

Stephen was awarded a stork pin to wear as a daily reminder of the extraordinary work that dispatchers do every day.

In honor of National Telecommunications Week, we would like to thank our partners at Town of Amherst Central Fire Alarm Office and Amherst Police Department - NY. The North Amherst Fire Company has several current and past members that either worked for or are working for one of these dispatch centers. Dispatching is a thankless job that often gets criticism from the public and other first responders. In reality, dispatchers are the central nervous system of an emergency incident and the life line for callers and first responders. Thank you for all that you do, and know that we have your back!

This evening NAFC, Wendelville Fire Company, and Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company Inc. traveled out to the Amherst fire tower for some live fire evolutions. Companies worked together on hose line advancement and search skills. All participants improved at something tonight, a common goal amongst each company when it comes to training.

NAFC responded to a Car vs Pole at Tonawanda Creek/Hopkins earlier this morning. Occupants luckily escaped with only minor injuries. Expect roadways in the area to be closed for an extended period of time while necessary repairs are made.

This evening, NAFC and some members from Wendelville Fire Company practiced primary search and ground ladder deployment. These evolutions were utilized as a refresher for our upcoming live fire trainings. Always great working alongside them and other Niagara County agencies!
