🚨 MANDATORY WATER CONSERVATION NOTICE 🚨

The Town has entered into mandatory water conservation due to reduced water flow in the Buffalo River, our drinking water source.

With the continued reduction in flow at the Town’s water intake, we are nearing the point where it may become difficult to meet the community’s water demand. We are asking all Town water customers to please conserve water wherever possible.

💧 The following conservation measures are REQUIRED:

🚫 Do not fill decorative fountains.
🏊 Only fill swimming pools as necessary to maintain structural integrity.
🚿 Only wash paved areas when necessary for health and safety.
🌱 Limit lawn and landscape watering to three days per week.

Every gallon saved helps protect our community’s water supply.

We’re excited to bring back our Halloween Celebration for another year of family friendly fun! Join us on October 23 from 6:00–8:00 PM for a festive evening filled with Halloween activities for the whole community.

Honoring Michael H. Driskill

During its meeting last night (August 12, 2026), the Town Council adopted a Resolution in memoriam and in honor of Michael H. Driskill, recognizing his dedicated service to the Town of Amherst and his many contributions to our community.

Mr. Driskill served on the Amherst Town Council from 2023 until his passing in 2026. The resolution honors his commitment to public service, his distinguished military career, and the kindness and generosity he shared with those around him.

August 14, 2026, Candidate Deadline for Amherst Town Council November 2026 Special Election

A special election to fill the vacancy that occurred due to the recent passing of Michael Driskill will be held as part of the November 3, 2026, General Election.

Individuals interested in having their name placed on the ballot should review the Virginia Department of Elections candidate requirements and filing deadlines.

Required documents, including the Certificate of Candidate Qualification and required Petition of Qualified Voters, must be submitted by:
