A busy day in North Tonawanda Yesterday. Stay Safe!

At approximately 1459 hours today, Platoon 2 under the Command of Assistant Chief Eric Gampp, were dispatched to a possible head on jet ski collision on the Niagara River near Gratwick Park. Callers reported possibly 5 victims in the water and 2 unconscious. This had occurred roughly 100 feet out from shore, directly in front of the Gratwick Boat Launch.
Engine 4, Engine 6, Car 10 and the Canal Fest EMS detail responded.
It was quickly determined that other civilian jet skis in the river were picking up victims and bringing them to shore. All apparatus were directed to Gratwick Park.
NTFD Canal Fest EMS along with the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station 914th Fire Department staff (who have been providing on-site support services at Canal Fest this week), met the jet skis at the boat launch and began pulling victims from the water, providing stabilization and initiating treatment.
A Twin City Ambulance Corporation ambulance was also on location for the Canal Fest EMS detail and transported an accident victim. An additional ambulance was requested and transported a second victim.
A total of 4 people were on the 2 jet skis. 2 patients, both minors, were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
This accident occurred during multiple ongoing EMS calls on the Canal Fest Campus and other EMS calls in the City.
We would like to thank our partner agencies from the Airbase Fire Dept and Twin City Ambulance for their assistance in ensuring efficient operations during this incident.
Additionally, as crews were clearing Gratwick Park, they responded to a 3 car accident in the 100 block of River Rd.
Only minor injuries were reported.

Congratulations to our own team member Nolan, for putting his training to work! He and his fellow lifeguards, helped a person suffering an emergency in January.
Great work to them all! Thank you Nolan for the service you provide to the public at both Twin City Ambulance Corporation and at Town of Tonawanda Youth, Parks & Recreation

At Monday's Town Board meeting, Nick Bond, CEO of the American Red Cross, Western New York Region, presented Red Cross National Life Saving awards to four Town of Tonawanda Youth, Parks & Recreation Aquatic & Fitness Center lifeguards who saved the life of a patron who was experiencing a heart-related Emergency in January 2026.
