Guided StoryWalk with the Hitchcock Center!

Saturday, September 5th

At the Julius Lester Trail at Mill River Park
Recommended for ages 0-6

The North Amherst Library and the Hitchcock Center for the Environment have teamed up! Join us at the Julius Lester Trail at Mill River Park to explore “Just One Oak” by Maria Gianferrari through movement, song, and a guided StoryWalk.

This event is best for children ages 0-6. Children must attend with an adult.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Jones Libraries.

Jones Library Storytime 📚

Thursdays in August

Jones Library Kids Room, 101 University Drive

Join members of the Kids Room staff for a selection of stories at our weekly Thursday morning storytime in our temporary space on the ground floor at 101 University Drive. Caregivers and their little ones are invited to listen to stories, learn songs, and check out books! This program is recommended for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers.

The Kids’ Summer Reading Program is almost over!

Remember to turn in your Kids’ Summer Reading logs by August 8th to be entered into our Grand Prize Drawing. Feel free to bring them to our Kids’ End of Summer Reading Party at the Munson Memorial Library on Saturday, August 8th, from 10:30am-12pm!

The Teen and Adult Summer Reading Programs continue through August 22nd.

Our next 📖Nonfiction Book Club📖 meeting will be on Thursday, August 13th, from 4-5pm!

We’ll be discussing the book “Living Bridges: The Hidden World of India’s Woven Trees” by Sandhya Acharya, illustrated by Avani Dwivedi. We’ll also be doing a STEAM activity together!

Our next 📖Graphic Novel Book Club📖 meeting will be on Tuesday, August 4th, from 4-5pm at the temporary Jones Library location (101 University Drive)!

We’ll be discussing the book “I Survived The Great Molasses Flood, 1919” by Georgia Ball and other books from the “I Survived” graphic novel series. We will have a selection of titles to choose from! We’ll also be doing an art activity inspired by the story.

🌼Build-a-Bouquet with flowers from Old Friends Farm, Amherst MA

🌼Learn about farming in Amherst with the Amherst Historical Society

🌼Bring your Summer Reading log and get entered into our grand prize drawing!

🌼Plus summer reading crafts, photobooth, and more!

The Munson Memorial Library is located at 1046 S. East St, South Amherst. You are welcome to park in the designated spots in front of the library, or in the neighboring church parking lot.

This is the last day for kids (ages 0-10) to turn in their reading log and receive an entry to the grand prize drawing. The Kids Summer Reading prize drawing will be on Monday, August 10th, and winners will be notified by phone or email. Kids Summer Reading logs will still be accepted until August 25th to receive a nature observation kit.

The Massachusetts Statewide Summer Library Program is funded by the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. This program is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Jones Libraries.

Kids Crafternoon with UMass Five College Credit Union

Kids of all ages are invited to join staff from the Jones Library Kids Room and UMass Five College Credit Union (UMassFive College Credit Union)for a story and seed-planting activity. As part of our Summer Reading Program, Plant A Seed, Read! we are excited to learn about how seeds grow, and about community supported agriculture (CSA). We will have coloring sheets, books to check out, and time to ask questions and explore activities.

UMassFive College Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that serves the financial needs of the people and businesses of the Pioneer Valley and beyond, including those associated with the University of Massachusetts and Five Colleges, Mercy Medical Center, Northampton VA Medical Center, UMass Chan Medical School, and other local organizations that share UMassFive’s commitment to community-focused values and a sustainable local economy.

Caravan Puppets at Kendrick Park!

We are excited to welcome local favorites Caravan Puppets to Kendrick Park for an outdoor puppet show to celebrate Summer Reading! Audiences will be treated to classic and original stories, beautiful handcrafted puppets, and loads of interactive music.

Caravan Puppets have been sharing stories of creativity and imagination for over 30 years. Performing with handcrafted puppets, this year they will celebrate the Summer Reading theme with “Jack and the Beanstalk” and “Miss Rumphius” at beautiful Kendrick Park!

Jack and the Beanstalk - A gentle take on this classic tale comes complete with the giant’s castle in the clouds and a singing harp.

Miss Rumphius - The Lupin Lady, Miss Rumphius, traveled the roads of New England planting colorful lupin flowers wherever she went.

Please Note: In case of inclement weather, this performance will move to the Bangs Community Center.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Amherst Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
