This truly marks the end of an era as Amityville Police Officer Joseph Slack retires after 24 years of dedicated service to the Village of Amityville.
The Slack name has long been synonymous with service, professionalism, and commitment within our community, and especially within the Amityville Police Department. Joe proudly followed in the footsteps of his brother, retired Chief Glenn Slack, and his sister, retired Sergeant Pam Damboise, continuing a family legacy that has left an indelible mark on our Department.
Known for his quick wit and legendary sense of humor, Joe was the ultimate prankster who could always bring a smile to those around him. Beyond the jokes, he was someone who never met a stranger—always willing to strike up a conversation, lend an ear, and make everyone feel welcome. His personality, camaraderie, and genuine kindness made him the heart of our Department.
While we are excited for Joe as he begins this well-earned next chapter, his presence will be deeply missed by his brothers and sisters in blue and by all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
Congratulations on your retirement, Joe, and thank you for 24 years of service, dedication, and laughter.
You will be truly missed. And as you would say—You know what time it is!

Today, we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country and our freedom.
While many of us celebrate this weekend with family and friends, many Americans are answering calls to protect this great nation. We thank all Military members for their dedication to ensuring our freedoms. We also want to thank our First Responders for their daily work, which strengthens our communities and upholds the values they fought to protect. Your commitment, integrity, and service make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Happy Memorial Day!

A special thank you to the , and for showing up in full force and demonstrating the unity and strength of the First Responder community.
Most importantly, we extend our deepest gratitude to the family of PO Patricia Espinosa. The Amityville PBA is committed to the safety of our community. Public safety will always be our top priority. The residents of community deserve to feel safe in their homes, on their streets, and in every corner of their neighborhoods.
Yet, disturbing incident serves as a stark reminder of real challenges facing our neighborhoods and the urgent need for effective, enforceable policies that protect the public. Violence of any kind—especially acts this heinous—has no place in our society. We stand with the victim and his family, and we commend multiple law enforcement agencies for their swift efforts in bringing a suspect into custody. At the same time, this case highlights broader concerns that demand serious attention and action at every level of government.
Public safety is not political—it’s fundamental. Our communities deserve to feel secure, supported, and protected.
Our community deserves policies that are proactive—not reactive. Preventing violent crime must be the standard, not the exception. This is not about politics. It’s about responsibility. It’s about protecting people. Now is the time for real, effective policy solutions that ensure something like this does not happen again.
The Amityville PBA will continue to stand in support of policies that strengthen law enforcement efforts, protect victims, and prevent senseless acts of violence like this from occurring again.
