Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed.
We remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives who were taken from their families and loved ones. We remember the brave members of law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and countless civilians who ran toward danger while others ran to safety. We remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
We also remember the days and weeks that followed—when our nation stood united, neighbors stood beside neighbors, and the American spirit shined brighter than ever.
The Village of Amityville was not untouched by the tragedy. We continue to remember and honor Peter J. O’Neill, Jr. and Louise Lynch, two members of our community whose lives were lost on that tragic day.
As members of the Amityville Police Benevolent Association, we carry a special responsibility to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting others serve as a lasting example to all who wear the badge today.
25 years later, their names are still remembered. Their sacrifices are still honored. Their stories will never be forgotten.
May we always remember September 11, 2001—not only for the tragedy we endured, but for the courage, compassion, and unity that followed.

As the school year gets underway and the fall season approaches, the spirit of Halloween is once again upon us!
On Saturday, October 17th, the 2026 Thomas H. Smith Ragamuffin Parade will call all ghosts, goblins, witches, superheroes and princesses to come out and show off their Halloween spirit!
We look forward to seeing our community come together for a fun-filled day of Halloween excitement, costumes, and family memories.

A huge shoutout and special thank you to Honest Coins Long Island for generously donating the challenge coins for our Co****le Event this past week!
The event was a great success, raising money in honor of the 25th Anniversary of September 11th.
All proceeds are being donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
We still have a limited number of challenge coins available for purchase for $25 each, with proceeds continuing to benefit Tunnel to Towers.

Thank you to everyone who participated, supported the event, and helped us honor and remember those we lost on September 11, 2001.

When a local organization needs a helping hand, the Amityville PBA is always there to answer the call.
The Save the Great South Bay organization recently reached out to Master Diver Barry Lipsky to check on their oyster restoration project just off Unqua. Mr. Lipsky called on our own APD Lt. Walters to help him. Lt. Walters assisted Master Dive Instructor Barry Lipsky, volunteering his time, experience, and effort to dive off the docks of the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club to check on the oysters and ensure they are healthy and continuing their important work of helping to clean and restore our bay.
We are proud to have members like Lt. Walters who are always willing to go above and beyond—not only for our residents, but for the health and preservation of the community we all call home.
The Amityville PBA is proud to support organizations like Save the Great South Bay and their efforts to protect and restore our local waterways.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Amityville PBA School Supply Drive! All the supplies will be distributed directly to the students of the Amityville UFSD today at Bolden Mack Park from 11am-2pm. We look forward to seeing all of the students back at school soon!

The Amityville PBA Co****le Tournament was a tremendous success! What an incredible event, with 29 teams and countless spectators coming out to support our cause and help us remember and honor the 25th Anniversary of September 11, 2001.
We cannot thank our sponsors, participants and volunteers enough for helping make this event such a tremendous success. Your generosity, support, and dedication made this special day possible, and we are truly grateful to everyone who played a part.
Most importantly, we are proud to announce that 100% of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, supporting their ongoing mission to honor and support our nation’s first responders, military members, and their families.
Thank you to everyone who came out, played, cheered, donated, and helped us honor the heroes and remember the lives forever changed on September 11, 2001.

This special event will bring our community together while supporting an incredible cause, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Today, we laid to rest one of the finest to ever wear the Amityville Police Department uniform.
Ernest “Ernie” Thompson was truly the best of us. He embodied what it meant to be a brother in blue—dedicating his life to protecting and serving the residents of Amityville and always being there for those he worked alongside.
Ernie’s impact extended far beyond his years in uniform. Through his leadership, friendship, and mentorship, he touched the lives of countless members of the Amityville Police Department.
His legacy will live on forever in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing, working with, and learning from him.
Rest easy, Ernie. Your watch is over. We’ll take it from here.
