Good morning, Amityville,
We continue to monitor the nor’easter and its impact on the Village. Last night’s high tide has receded. Although we experienced strong wind gusts, this morning’s inspection found no major trees or limbs down in the Village roadways.
The storm is not over. The next high tide is expected at approximately 11 a.m. today, and we anticipate additional street flooding. More rain and gusty winds are expected through the day. If you do not need to travel, please stay home. Roads are wet and may be dangerous, especially where water has collected. Never drive through a flooded street.
If you need emergency assistance, call the Amityville Police Department at 631-264-0400 or Babylon Central Fire Alarm for Amityville Fire and Rescue at 631-226-1212. Calling directly is the quickest way to request help.
To report a power outage or downed wire, call PSEG Long Island at 1-800-490-0075. For a gas emergency, call National Grid at 1-800-490-0045. If you smell gas, leave the area immediately and call from a safe location.

The Mayor and Trustees, along with key Village personnel, have been out making rounds today assessing any current damage from the nor'easter. Thanks to a proactive tree trimming program throughout the year by the Village DPW, only a few Village tree branches are down at this point. Some private properties have experienced fallen trees, and we urge anyone who is out and about to be mindful of loose branches that may still come down.
Residents are warned that while the tides may have receded from earlier today, the storm is not over! Be prepared for more high wind, rain and flooding in coastal areas this evening into tomorrow.

STORM UPDATE
The prolonged coastal-flood and wind event continues along Great South Bay due to the nor’easter. We are currently seeing significant flooding in some of the low-lying coastal areas of the Village. Several streets south of Merrick Road are closed and the community is urged to remain off the roads if travel is not necessary. This is for your safety and the safety of our first responders.
In addition to extremely high tides and wind gusts of over 50 miles per hour, we will have a full moon tonight and anticipate continued wind and rain that will result in increased flooding into Sunday. This is a multi-tide event, and water in low-lying portions of Amityville may not fully recede before the next high tide.
We remind residents that if conditions allow, we encourage them to move their vehicles to higher ground and park in any Village municipal lot through Monday. Again, tonight’s full moon will likely increase result in rising tides so act early and do so only do so if conditions safely allow.
A Gale Warning remains in effect for the South Shore Bays through 6 AM Sunday with hazardous conditions on Great South Bay. Prolonged strong winds also increase concern for trees and limbs, downed wires, unsecured objects and utility outages within the Village.
The Police and Fire Departments have already responded to multiple emergency calls which highlights the need to keep the roadways clear. Do not risk the chance of being stranded by driving around barricades or down flooded streets.
Again, please remain off the roads for your safety and for the safety of our first responders.

Amityville Fire Department hit it out of the park! Congrats on winning 1st place in the Town of Babylon FD Softball Championships.

The Chiefs Office would like to congratulate the AFD Softball Team on their 1st Place victory for the league as well as the TOB Championship last Friday night. The team would also like to thank all of the members and fans who showed up to support us ! Back to Back Champions!!!

The AFA Barbara Rabinowitz Education & Resource Center and the Town of Babylon will host a free “Family Fun Day” on Saturday, September 19, from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm at the Center (149 Schleigel Boulevard, Amityville, NY 11701). The event, which is being held in celebration of Grandparents Appreciation Month and the Center’s one-year anniversary, will feature numerous family-friendly activities, as well as special guest appearances by New York sports legends Dwight “Doc” Gooden and Wayne Chrebet.
