From the office of Chief Bowen:
Our city is no stranger to water rising. We give credit to the Amory Public Works and Amory Mississippi for all the hard work and improvements in the last few years. However, it is always good information to have!! Turn around, don't drown.

🌊 DISASTER PREPAREDNESS WEEK | DAY 4: FLOODING & FLASH FLOODING

Flooding is one of the most common weather hazards, and flash flooding can develop quickly with little warning.

First, know the difference:

🟡 FLOOD WATCH = BE PREPARED
Flooding is possible. Stay weather aware, monitor conditions, and be prepared to move to higher ground if necessary.

🔴 FLOOD WARNING = TAKE ACTION
Flooding is occurring or expected. Follow instructions from local officials and move to a safe location if needed.

🚗 TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!

Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway.

🌊 You may not be able to tell how deep the water is.
🛣️ The roadway underneath may be damaged or completely washed away.
🚧 Never drive around barricades. They are there for your safety.

⚠️ Just 6 inches of fast-moving water can knock an adult off their feet, and about 12 inches of moving water can carry away many vehicles.

Keep Wireless Emergency Alerts enabled, monitor trusted weather sources, and have another reliable method—such as a NOAA Weather Radio—to receive warnings if power or cell service is disrupted.

📍 If you live or travel through a flood-prone area, know alternate routes before heavy rain begins.

👉 Never underestimate floodwater. Turn around. Find another route. Share this post.

Great information

🔐 October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and the Mississippi Cyber Unit is sharing tips throughout the month to help Mississippians protect themselves and their families online.

💻 Cyber Tip of the Week: Think before you share!

The small details you post online can reveal more than you realize. From pet names and birthdays to vacation plans, cybercriminals can use seemingly harmless information to target your accounts, guess passwords or create convincing scams.

Take a few seconds before you post, check your privacy settings and remember: when in doubt, don’t share. Your identity and safety are worth the extra caution.

Stay tuned each week for another tip from the Mississippi Cyber Unit! 🛡️

On September 10, 2026, agents with the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit, along with officers from the Amory Police Department and Fulton Police Department, executed a search warrant at Smoky 3 V**e & Cell Phone Repair, located at 505 South Main Street in Amory.

During the search, agents recovered suspected illegal narcotics that were allegedly packaged in a manner consistent with distribution.

This investigation remains ongoing, and more information will be released at a later time. We appreciate the citizens that took time to call or send tips in making us aware of the illegal items being sold at this business.

If you have information or concerns regarding illegal drug activity, please contact the Amory Police Department at 662-256-2676, the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit at 662-841-6584, or the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151 (or use the P3 App).

Chief Bowen
