PLEASE SHARE🚨

As we enter the spring and summer season, the Amsterdam Police Department would like to remind all residents that property maintenance is essential to maintaining the safety, appearance, and quality of life within our village.

All property owners and residents are required to ensure:
• Grass and weeds are maintained in accordance with village ordinances
• Yards are kept free of debris and general clutter
• Junk vehicles and unused equipment are properly removed

Please also be advised:
• Vehicles that are impeding traffic, not properly registered, abandoned, or inoperable are subject to citation and towing
• Livestock regulations within village limits must be followed:
• A maximum of 12 chickens is permitted, with no roosters allowed
• Livestock such as goats and sheep are only permitted for approved 4-H projects, with proof submitted to Village Council

Residents wishing to review the full ordinances may do so by visiting the Village Building and requesting a copy from the Mayor or any member of Council.

Beginning immediately, these ordinances will be strictly enforced.

We encourage all residents to take pride in our community and do their part to keep the Village of Amsterdam clean, safe, and a great place to live.

Thank you for your cooperation.

The Amsterdam Police Department would like to inform the public that sometime during the overnight hours last night, a vehicle struck a utility pole and structure at the intersection of South Main Street and Apex Road. Following the crash, the vehicle, driver, and occupants fled the scene.

Thanks to important tips from the public, the use of traffic camera footage, and a thorough investigation by our officers, the driver was successfully located and has been charged in connection with this incident.

This case highlights how vital the public’s assistance is in helping law enforcement quickly and effectively resolve incidents such as this. We strongly remind everyone of the importance of remaining on scene after a crash and accepting responsibility for one’s actions. Leaving the scene only compounds the seriousness of the situation and places others at risk.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, and appropriate steps can now be taken for restitution to be sought by the victims affected by the damage.

The Amsterdam Police Department remains dedicated to taking swift action when crime occurs and will continue to be diligent in protecting our citizens and holding offenders accountable.

We appreciate the continued cooperation and support of our community.
