Strawberries are nutrient-rich, low-calorie fruits that are high in fiber and hydrating. One half cup provides 32 calories and 2 grams of fiber. They are also rich in antioxidants, vitamins (like Vitamin C), and beneficial plant compounds that support heart, brain, and immune health. They have a low glycemic index (around 40) which prevents large blood sugar spikes. They are best eaten fresh and raw, but unsweetened frozen ones are equally nutritious. Add them to smoothies, salads, yogurt, cottage cheese, desserts and hot/cold cereals. Or try this nontraditional take on a summer classic- Caprese salad!

The 2026 OFA Volunteers of the Year are a dedicated team of women from Community Bank: Kim Roberts, Angela Baker, and Gloria Pickering. These women have demonstrated years of outstanding commitment through their support of OFA as well as numerous other volunteer efforts throughout the community. Their willingness to generously give their time and energy wherever needed reflects a true spirit of service and a deep commitment to helping others.

Mary is highly active at the Inman Senior Center and serves as a volunteer driver for OFA’s Senior Transport Program. A retired Postmaster, Mary lives by her favorite motto, “just do it!”
