Medicare costs can add up quickly.

Many people with Medicare are surprised to learn that there may be programs available to help with Medicare premiums, deductibles, copays, and prescription drug costs.

Even if you've looked into assistance before, it's worth checking again. Some income and assets may not count toward eligibility, and many people qualify when they didn't think they would.

SHIP is here to support you. If Medicare costs are a concern, don't assume you won't qualify for help. Reach out to your local SHIP to learn about programs that may help lower your Medicare costs.

When a family reaches out for help, sometimes the answer takes a community working together. ❤️

Last week, the Montgomery County Office for Aging received a call from a senior caring for her 45-year-old terminally ill son, Albert. The family was looking for a donated power lift recliner to help make him more comfortable.

While the Office for Aging does not have furniture available for donation, our staff went to work on the family's behalf. We reached out to a local furniture store and were grateful when they generously agreed to donate a power lift recliner. We then utilized a professional community connection to arrange delivery—at no cost to the family.

The family shared that Albert is entitled to a hospital bed through Medicaid, but a reclining lift chair would provide him with another comfortable option while allowing him to sit, rest and reposition himself, while being at home with his family in a more familiar setting.

Albert received his new chair within a few days. This is what community partnership looks like. 💙

We are honored and deeply grateful to announce an extraordinary gift from the Francisco Family Fund of the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region. This gift was made in loving memory of their parents, Robert G. and Barbara L. Francisco, whose lives were touched by the compassionate services provided by our senior services organization.

Their generous contribution is more than a financial gift as it is a lasting tribute to their parents’ legacy and a powerful investment in the future of our community. By choosing to support our mission, the Francisco Family is helping ensure that essential services such as Rao Family Meals of Montgomery, in-home care, and other programs remain available for seniors who depend on them every day.

With everyday expenses continuing to add up, saving money wherever you can matters. Medicare's Extra Help program can lower prescription drug costs by helping pay Part D premiums, deductibles, and copays for those who qualify.

Apply Now: You don't have to wait until Medicare Open Enrollment to apply for Extra Help. Applications are accepted year-round, and qualifying for Extra Help may also give you additional opportunities to change your Part D plan.
