Last night's city council meeting provided an opportunity to acknowledge two local businesses for their substantial contributions to AFD's marine program. We sincerely appreciate their partnership and support for our marine emergency response capabilities.

North Harbor Diesel graciously provided a new outboard motor and installation for our current rescue boat - Marine 29, replacing its aging and unreliable motor, allowing us to safely and confidently respond to marine rescue incidents.

HF Sinclair provided $25,000 donation for the purchase of a FLIR (forward looking infrared radar) camera for our new Fire-Rescue boat, which is expected to be delivered next year.

A huge thank you to these businesses and all partners in the community who assist us in providing service to our community!

An important note and video from our friends at Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue, serving as a reminder to always sleep with your bedroom doors closed! A closed door not only protects buys you time from fire spread but also protects you from deadly smoke and products of combustion. Also, remember to have working smoke detectors in every sleeping area of the home!

REMINDER: 10:16 this morning, if you hear sirens, it's part of the GREAT SHAKEOUT, an annual earthquake preparedness drill! No need to panic. No need to call 911.

Tomorrow morning (10/16) at 10:16 am will be the GREAT SHAKEOUT - when millions of people worldwide participate in earthquake drills at work, schools, and at home!

This is an opportunity to test and train with mass notification systems, such as our local tsunami warning systems, and perform evacuation and accountability exercises and activate the local Emergency Operations Center (EOC). This is also an opportunity for members of our community to consider their preparedness for disasters such as earthquakes!

If you hear our local sirens sounding at this time, it is only a drill-related test - don't panic, don't call 911.
