Guemes Island Fire Department

Guemes Island Fire Department Located in the San Juan Islands, Guemes Island is just north of Anacortes across the Guemes channel.

The Guemes Island Fire Department is a volunteer organization dedicated to providing the best possible medical and fire emergency response services to the people of Guemes Island, Washington The island is served by a small ferry operated by Skagit County. GIFD provides basic life support response and care with a modern ambulance and a team of ten emergency medical technicians. Advanced life suppor

t resonse is provided by Anacortes Fire Department. With two pumper, a tanker and brush rig, GIFD is equipped to handle everything from wildland fires to complex structure fires.

Reminder: Make sure your campfires are on your own property and in a regulated fire pit. Having a bonfire at the public boat ramp is not permitted. This rule falls under the WAC 352-37-105 state recreational fire code.

Community Update: Guemes Island is under a modified burn ban, permitting campfires in regulated pits. Fireworks are limited to legal products; examples of permissible and prohibited items are provided in the attached image. As a volunteer fire station operating with limited water and resources, our response capacity differs from city stations, potentially resulting in longer response times. We rely on water transportation rather than drafting from hydrants, which may increase our response time by up to 10 minutes. In the event of an emergency, you must call 911 as soon as possible to ensure a prompt response.

Notice: Burn Ban in Effect. The burning of piles is strictly forbidden. Campfires are allowed if they are contained within a ring made of cement blocks, stones, or #10 gauge steel that is 18 inches high and no larger than 3 feet in diameter. A 10-foot area free of combustible materials and overhanging branches or limbs must be maintained around the campfire. Flames should not exceed 2 feet above the top of the ring.
