The DPOC is so proud to announce our Truman Award recipient this year, Senator Tom Umberg!

State Senator Thomas J. Umberg is a retired army Colonel, former federal and military prosecutor, Clinton Administration alumnus, small business owner, 3-term State Assemblyman, and current State Senator where he serves California as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Beginning with his military service, Senator Umberg has one of the most distinguished careers of any Democrat in Orange County history, giving a lifetime of duty to the public and spending nearly four decades in faithful service to Orange County’s families and residents.

Recently, Senator Umberg authored the “No Kings” law to prevent Donald Trump from appearing on the ballot in California again and backed legislation demanding accountability and unmasking ICE Agents while protecting civil rights for all Californians. Now, Senator Umberg is running for Board of Equalization and is the endorsed Democrat running in District 4!

Whether it’s standing up to Donald Trump, protecting working families or supporting other local Democrats, Senator Umberg has always had our back!

California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, CPA, was first elected in 2018 with more votes than any other candidate for Treasurer in California. A breaker of barriers, she was the first woman of color elected to the position.

Beyond that, she has given a lifetime of service to the state of California and the Democratic Party. She has supported and helped elevate countless Democrats for local office, especially in Orange County, and has been a vocal proponent of the need to elect more women up and down the ballot.

In the June 2026 primary, she made the top two in the election for Lieutenant Governor and is officially the endorsed Democrat for that position. For all this and more, the Democratic Party of Orange County is proud to bestow the Dick O’Neill Service Award to the Hon. Fiona Ma! Congratulations again!

Few organizations have done more to advance the cause of worker empowerment in OC than the Orange County Employees Association. Founded in 1937, OCEA is comprised of thousands of public health nurses, social workers, law enforcement officers, health inspectors, and other dedicated workers who keep Orange County safe and healthy.

In their remarkable history, they’ve waged a decades-long crusade for fairness and justice on behalf of their members and working families across Orange County.

Most recently, OCEA was instrumental in creating a historic, pro-worker Democratic majority on the OC Board of Supervisors. Last year, they led the efforts to stop the MAGA takeover of Huntington Beach’s libraries. During the 2026 June Primary, working with the DPOC, they led the independent expenditure campaign on behalf of our top priority candidates, Supervisor Katrina Foley and Buena Park Mayor Connor Traut, this work was essential to ensuring both candidates were the top vote-getters in both races.

Whether its lending their hall for the most recent DPOC candidate trainings, or partnering on countless races across the county for the betterment of workers and progressive change, OCEA has always proven to be a reliable partner. We are proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them at this year’s Truman Dinner and bestow the Dolores Huerta Labor Award to the Orange County Employees Association.

We’re so proud to announce our annual Linda Nearing Club Award for this years Truman Dinner on September 19th in Costa Mesa!

One of DPOC’s most active organizations and a political powerhouse in Orange County, the Democratic Women of South Orange County ( Democratic Women of South Orange County ) are both the largest Democratic club in OC and its most active, with over 1,000 members drawn largely from the communities of San Clemente, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, and Laguna Niguel.

Their vision of promoting democracy and Democratic values in South OC and their belief that no elected office is too small, has brought real change within their communities and helped elect Democrats in one of the most conservative areas in California.

No club is more deserving than the Democratic Women of South Orange County for our annual Linda Nearing Club of the Year Award and the DPOC is proud to bestow this award on the DWSOC once again!
