Found some vintage Disneyland photos today looking at photo albums with my aunt. 1970s for sure but exact year unknown? One clue is the photos have rounded corners and that pebble finish that was popular for a brief time.

Can we calm down with the offensive posts? Facebook keeps jumping in and saying there are posts that violate their community standards. Let's pretend we are grown-ups.

Walt Disney was usually “a-head” of his competitors when it came to animation, but his live action output varied, and he was sometimes behind the curve.

One famous and popular live action movie genre that Walt never really approached for a full feature film was horror/thriller.

The closest he came was 1963’s Dr. Syn, or The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, which - while technically more of an historical drama based around a fictional character - took place in the dark and foggy British wetlands, with a vigilante dressing up as a menacing scarecrow to come out of the shadows at night to terrify wrong doers (it had shades of Zorro and Batman.)

It wasn’t until years after Walt’s death that his studio finally cracked the horror genre, first with 1980’s British Gothic tale The Watcher In The Woods and then 1983’s Something Wicked This Way Comes, a creepy story about a malevolent carnival operator (Jonathan Pryce) based on a story written by Walt’s close friend, author Ray Bradbury.

One of Disney’s biggest live action box office hits (through their Hollywood Pictures label) was 1999’s The Sixth Sense - one of the few horror films to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
