Classic cowboy history, entertainment, and art Yellowstone folks fit right in Frontierland
Buck Taylor, who plays the wise and steady cowboy Emmett Walsh on Yellowstone, is a veteran actor and real-life cowboy, widely respected for his decades of experience in the Western genre. During filming, his presence on set was not only an asset for his acting skills but also for the wealth of knowledge he shared with the younger cast members, including Cole Hauser and Luke Grimes.
One particularly memorable story occurred during the filming of a challenging horseback riding scene that involved Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) and Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton). The scene called for some complex maneuvers, and while both actors had become increasingly skilled riders throughout the series, this particular sequence was more difficult than usual. The timing and coordination with the horses had to be just right, but after several takes, things still weren’t going as smoothly as they had hoped.
That’s when Buck Taylor stepped in. With his calm demeanor and years of riding experience, Buck offered Hauser and Grimes some guidance. He patiently walked them through the steps, showing them how to better communicate with their horses, and even demonstrated the maneuver himself with ease. Buck’s deep understanding of horses and riding made him a valuable mentor in that moment, and his advice was both practical and encouraging.
Cole Hauser, who had always admired Buck for his legendary career, later reflected on how much that moment meant to him. He said that Buck’s ability to ride with such grace and control was something he aspired to, and having him on set was like having a living piece of Western history by their side. Luke Grimes, who shared similar admiration, expressed his gratitude for Buck’s help, saying it made the scene flow much more naturally once they had his expert guidance.
Buck Taylor’s willingness to step in and share his knowledge wasn’t just about making the scene work—it was about passing down cowboy wisdom to the next generation, something he did with humility and kindness. The camaraderie between the actors grew stronger that day, and both Hauser and Grimes walked away with a greater appreciation for the skills Buck had honed over a lifetime.
That moment encapsulated the spirit of the Yellowstone set, where the cast not only worked together but supported each other like a family, with the more experienced actors like Buck Taylor always ready to lend a hand when needed.
