Sheriff Hawthorne and the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend their sincere condolences to the family, both blood and blue, of Houston Police Senior Officer William Jeffrey.

Jeffrey’s life was feloniously taken by a violent repeat offender early this morning. Another officer, Sergeant Michael Vance was also shot multiple times and is in stable condition.

“Situations such as these are easily avoidable if violent, repeat offenders are kept behind bars instead of being released on petty bonds.
God bless Officer Jeffrey, his family and friends,” said Sheriff Hawthorne.

(Update Provided Based on 4 p.m. National Weather Service Conference Call)

There are a few changes to note from this afternoon's conference call with US National Weather Service Houston-Galveston Texas. The main things to note are:
- The rainfall totals have INCREASED by about 5 inches
- The track of the storm has shifted slightly to the west

However, the NWS' certainty is still moderate and this rain making weather event is moving quickly.

Tropical Storm force winds will begin arriving late Monday through early Tuesday so residents are encouraged to begin securing light objects that may be blown around outdoors.

Sand has been placed at Winnie-Stowell Park, White Memorial Park and McLeod Park for resident use. Each Commissioner office will have sand bags available tomorrow, however in the mean time we recommend double bagging with a heavy duty trash can liner if you cannot wait to get bags.

We will continue to monitor TS Nicholas and will provide updates as appropriate.

Hi friends,

Tropical Storm Nicholas has now become a named storm. For now, here is what we expect for Chambers County:
• Heavy rains and tropical weather anticipated to begin Monday morning.
• It is possible that total rainfall through next Saturday could be 10 – 15 inches for coastal counties.
• Tropical storm level winds are possible beginning late Monday (39+ mph).
• Tidal surge of up to 2 – 4 feet possible.

This storm has the potential to bring localized flooding and wind to our area in the next few days. Now is the time to begin preparing your homes.

Make plans to have medication, food and water for several days. Begin planning for your pets' safety.

If you have medical conditions and may need additional assistance, please register with 2-1-1 or email [email protected]. Over the next day or so we will begin contacting all 2-1-1 registry members to make sure that all information is correct.

We will continue to monitor the weather and make preparations to respond as necessary.

Twenty years after September 11, 2001, we continue to honor the sacrifice made by our Fire, EMS, and Police brothers and sisters. We remember the personal and national losses on that day.

We pause to honor them this morning with a moment of silence. We honor the great sacrifice made by 343 firefighters, 8 EMS, and 61 police officers who perished on that fateful day.

May we always remember and never forget.

CCEMS and most area EMS agencies, are experiencing dramatic increases in response volumes!

For the month of August 2021, CCEMS average daily responses were up 18% compared to March, and for the last 5 days of August, our response volume was up 25%.

Responding to an average of 22 calls per day, in the Texas heat, wearing PPE on every response and increasing concerns about contracting COVID-19, take a toll on CCEMS crews, and all first responders.

Please keep all those who continue to serve on the healthcare front lines under these incredibly difficult circumstances in your thoughts and prayers!
