MEDIA RELEASE:

July 9, 2026

On 7-8-26, at approximately 1:38 pm, the Anamosa Police Department received a call for an attempt to locate a wanted subject involved in a possible domestic assault. The Police Department responded and began the investigation while ensuring the safety of all involved.

At approximately 2:20 pm, the vehicle was located by law enforcement entering the city limits of Anamosa from Exit 54 off Hwy 151. Anamosa Police attempted to stop the vehicle; the vehicle accelerated, failed to stop, and nearly struck a pedestrian on a riding lawn mower. After a short pursuit, the vehicle came to a stop in a field east of Kaitlynn Avenue causing damage to the crops in the field. Alexander Brenner, 31, of Earlville was taken into custody without incident. He is charged with Eluding (Class D Felony), Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree (Class D Felony), Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device (Simple Misdemeanor), Fail to Respond to Steady Red Light (Simple Misdemeanor), and is held on a Delaware County Warrant for Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, and Criminal Mischief 5th Degree.

Criminal charges are merely allegations, and anyone arrested is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The Anamosa Police Department would like to thank the Jones County Sheriff’s Office and the Monticello Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
