Sharing from Asotin County Emergency Management. Please continue to be very careful as there’s a lot of fire season still ahead of us. We have a lot of tall, DRY, flashy fuels on the landscape that can catch fire with the smallest spark.

Our thoughts are with our neighbors up north. Devastating!!!!

Thankfully there were no fire incidents in Asotin County during the Red Flag conditions yesterday, we were very lucky compared to other areas throughout Washington, especially Spokane. But we are NOT out of the woods.

The US National Weather Service Spokane Washington is cautioning that despite cooler temperatures today there is still an elevated risk of wildfire due to winds, low humidity, and dry fuels.

Yesterday Governor Bob Ferguson declared a statewide emergency and issued an emergency burn ban across the state.

We are asking residents to continue to exercise EXTREME CAUTION with regards to activities that could cause a wildfire. Firefighting resources statewide are stretched very thin; the National Guard has been activated to assist, and resources from other states will likely be requested.

❌Suspend harvesting operations during eleveated winds
❌Don't mow dry grass or w**d eat with a metal blade
❌Don't drive or park in dry grass
❌Don't do anything with open flame or that produces sparks near dry vegetation
