FREE SMOKE DETECTORS
The American Red Cross will be in the area to install smoke detectors for free for those who need them, the following is the information from the Red Cross.

They will be in Homer, Anchor Point, and Ninilchik this week on Thu, Fri, and Sat.

APPOINTMENTS: If you need a smoke alarm, please visit https://bit.ly/3oJKGMZ for a free smoke alarm installation appointment.
Installs: On May 12th and 13th in Homer, Ninilchik, and Anchor Point, Red Cross volunteers and partners will visit neighborhoods to install free smoke alarms for all those who need them. If you would like to help, Visit https://rdcrss.org/3Nlq1Js for details.

Given the amount of snow that fell yesterday, there are things to look at around your house while you’re digging yourself out. Such as checking your boiler/furnace and dryer vents to make sure they are clear and can vent properly. If the exhaust vents are not clear they can dump carbon monoxide (CO) back into your home. CO can accumulate rapidly if venting is inadequate and the gas is deadly. You won’t know CO exists unless you have a detector or until you’re sick…or worse. Be proactive and go check your vents. If you don’t have a detector, get one the next time you are at the store. This is one emergency that you can help prevent.

Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce and members of Ninilchik Emergency Services executive board signed an agreement this morning transferring NES assets to the Borough. This was the final step in completing the expansion of the Anchor Point Fire and Emergency Medical Service Area into the Western Emergency Service Area. WES will begin operations as one on Monday morning, proudly serving the communities of Anchor Point, Happy Valley, Ninilchik, Nikolaevsk, Clam Gulch.
