Alaskans for Fair & Independent Courts

Alaskans for Fair & Independent Courts Paid for by Alaskans for Fair Courts 1120 Huffman Rd, Ste 24-603, Anchorage, AK 99515. Donna Goldsmith, Co-Chair, approved this communication.

We are a nonpartisan group of Alaskans from across the political, ideological, and religious spectrum who believe justice should not be for sale, judges should be selected on the basis of their merit, and the framers of the Alaska Constitution got it right by keeping politics out of the courtroom. We are proud of the quality of judges who serve on Alaska’s courts and believe Alaskans are best serv

ed if we retain highly qualified judges whose decisions follow the law and do not confuse what is popular for what the law demands. We know that if special interest groups can remove any judge simply because they do not like that judge’s decision, Alaskans will have lost the level playing field that courts are meant to provide to ensure equal justice for all under the law. Paid for by Alaskans for Fair Courts, 1120 Huffman Rd, Suite 24-603, Anchorage, AK 99515. Top two donors are Roger DuBrock, Anchorage, AK and Karen Hunt, Anchorage, AK. Dunleavy violated a constitutional requirement to appoint a non-attorney to the Alaska Judicial Council.

Governor Dunleavy finally filled the third non-attorney position on the Alaska Judicial Council that has been vacant since Dave Parker’s term expired on March 1, 2025. Mr. Parker was one of three non-attorney "public members” on the Judicial Council. The governor filled the vacant non-attorney p...

Two judges, single opinion.

"As retired Superior Court Judges with over 70 years of service behind us, we are deeply concerned by the continuing attacks on the legitimacy of courts, both state and federal. These attacks are properly characterized as unrelenting attempts to undermine the integrity of the Judiciary, the third co-equal branch of government."

SJR 13 hurts Alaska’s judicial system!

Governor Dunleavy introduced SJR 13 in the Legislature earlier this year, seeking to amend Alaska’s state Constitution to eliminate the Alaska Judicial Council’s vital role in vetting and forwarding to the Governor the names of the top judicial applicants for Superior and Supreme Courts. Alaskans for Fair Courts is evaluating our collective successes in Alaska’s recent judicial retention elections. We are proud to report that after a 24-year downward trajectory of judicial retention YES votes in the Third Judicial District, the numbers are climbing back up! Of the 19 judges and justices on the ballot statewide, nine garnered at least 60% of the yes votes. We wish to express our deepest gratitude to all of you who took the time to advocate on behalf of the judges who serve your district - and to vote accordingly. https://bit.ly/3CFKBAY
