Interested in our Citizen Academy? Applications for the fall session of the APD Citizen Academy launch online Friday, July 15th at 12pm AST!

The program is designed to promote and enhance citizen understanding and awareness of the Anchorage Police Department's role within our community. The objective of the course is not to prepare graduates to become police officers, but to instill a greater general knowledge of APD's many functions.

Put it on your calendar, set yourself a reminder, do whatever it takes so that you don't forget because registration is first come, first serve (after a background check is completed).

Thank you to Chief Kerle, Lt. Soto, Capt. Case, Capt. Nolder, and Sunny Guerin for meeting with the Public Safety Advisory Commissioners today. We had a great discussion on a variety of topics including APD Budget, trainings, needed resources, retirement, recruitment, and more. We are glad to work together to keep Anchorage safe.

The Public Safety Advisory Commission (PSAC) update for summer schedule.

June 16: Cancelled meeting to encourage participation in APD’s listening session on Body Worn Camera Policy scheduled for same time.
July 21: Cancelled. Many Alaskans, including members of the PSAC, will be fishing to ensure freezers are full for the winter.
August 4: PSAC will hold an in-person public comment/listening session regarding APD’s Body Worn Camera Policy, details will be forthcoming.
August 18: Regularly scheduled meeting with agency reports, followed by an additional opportunity for public comment on the APD Body Worn Camera Policy.

Additionally, the PSAC was notified that it should return to meeting in-person with the emergency order no longer in place. The PSAC is currently in the process of securing a meeting location along with the potential for the continued use of Teams to engage the public. Currently, the PSAC plans to meet in person on August 18th, location/venue TBA.

The PSAC meetings are open to the public and we encourage your feedback and comments. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.
