For all their differences, one thing every single vessel in naval service has in common is that they have all felt the not-exactly-tender love and care of the Hull Technicians. Permanent fixtures in shipyards, repair shops, and engineering departments fleet wide, you can always tell that these are sailors are around by the sound of welding rigs and grinding wheels. Pipefitter, welder, plumber, industrial inspector, and shipfitter all rolled into one, HTs hold a vital role holding the Navy together with a combination of technical know-how, hard-won experience, and sheer grit. Interested applicants must have normal color vision, normal hearing, and be eligible to recover a national security clearance. Call (907)201-0535 for details.

Fun fact: you don’t need to be able to swim to go to Navy Boot Camp! You DO need to be able to swim to finish though. We recommend knowing these swimming competencies prior to leaving, but if you don’t, there are swim classes at boot camp taught by Navy SEALs. Before you ask, yes. They’re… intense. But they’re the best swim coaches on earth, and we can virtually guarantee you’ll be able to swim after working with them!

As any sailor will tell you, one of the greatest things about the naval service are the amazing people you’ll meet during your time. I still crack jokes with my reactor operator regardless of distance even now that he’s finished his career.
