The House and Senate Resources Committees will hold a joint meeting tomorrow, August 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the Anchorage Legislative Information Office.

The meeting will continue the Legislature's work on Alaska's energy and resource development, including issues that are important to our state's long-term economic future. I encourage Alaskans who are interested in these issues to tune in and stay engaged in the process.

The Capitol is equipped to stream committee meetings from all committee rooms and both chambers. Certain special events may be streamed from other locations inside and outside the Capital. This service exists to provide Alaskans with live access to every committee meeting in the State Capital. Gavel...

Are you voting in a different community on Election Day? Moved recently, or not seeing your name on the precinct list? In Alaska, you still have the right to cast your vote using a questioned ballot.

Here’s what you need to know to make sure your vote counts:
📍 Find your correct precinct: Scan the QR code in the graphic to check your polling location.

📩 Track your ballot: If your questioned ballot is rejected, election officials must notify you by mail with a reason. If it’s counted, no notice is sent — but you can call 1-888-465-4857 starting 15 days after the election to verify its status.

You should never be turned away at the polls. Know your rights and ensure that your ballot is counted.

It's been ten years since the Blue Angels have been to Anchorage but boy was it worth the wait! Go Navy! 💪🇺🇸

If you missed the airshow today, you can still see the Blue Angels perform again tomorrow, Sunday, at the Arctic Thunder Open House at JBER! Gates open at 9:00 AM and admission is free. Just be sure to allow extra time for traffic getting onto base.

Heather and I celebrated National Pickleball Day with a few games this morning on top of the 5th Avenue garage courts, complete with views of the air show overhead. It was a great way to get outside and get active. If you want to learn the game or get involved locally, the Anchorage Pickleball Club is a fantastic place to start.

I'm encouraged to see Alaska receive permanent federal approval for its Educator Registered Apprenticeship Program, creating another pathway for Alaskans to enter the teaching profession while gaining valuable classroom experience. As communities across our state continue to face teacher shortages, innovative solutions like this can help strengthen our schools and support students.

Back-to-school season is here! As students across Anchorage get ready to head back to the classroom, I want to wish every student, parent, teacher, school employee, and volunteer a wonderful start to the new school year.

This year, the Anchorage School District listened to feedback from families and educators when finalizing the school calendar, returning the start date to August 19. I'm glad to see the district respond to community feedback and make adjustments that reflect the needs of students and families.

Thank you to the teachers, principals, bus drivers, custodians, counselors, paraprofessionals, and countless others who help our students succeed each day. Wishing everyone a safe, successful, and rewarding school year filled with learning, growth, and new opportunities!

The Anchorage School Board has approved an updated 2026-27 school calendar that returns the first day of school to Aug. 19 after complaints from families about an earlier start date.

It's a packed house here at the AEDC Luncheon where local leaders have gathered to discuss the future of Anchorage's economy. One statistic that stood out: Anchorage has experienced negative net out-migration in 15 of the last 16 years, and our working-age population is down nearly 10% over the last decade.

Every summer, blood centers across Alaska experience a critical need for donors. We are currently in the "100 Most Dangerous Days" of the year - the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when outdoor activities increase, travel spikes, and trauma cases rise significantly, driving up the demand for life-saving blood supplies.

Giving blood is a simple, direct way to support our neighbors when they need it most. I recently completed my tenth whole blood donation, and I am always grateful for the dedicated local healthcare workers and staff who make the process quick, safe, and welcoming.

If you are eligible and able, please consider scheduling a donation this month. A single hour of your time can truly save a life. You can find convenient local donation locations and book an appointment at bloodbankofalaska.org @

It was great seeing everyone at the Abbott Loop Community Council meeting last night at Whisper Faith Kovach Park! You really couldn’t ask for better weather, and it was wonderful to see our community come together - especially with a few new faces joining us for their very first meeting. Thanks to everyone who made it out!

While some view Alaska’s cold climate and energy potential as ideal conditions for hosting major data centers, projects of this scale bring up important considerations around both opportunity and local impact.

As state leaders evaluate these possibilities, what concerns do you have, and how can we best balance the need for new business and investment while protecting the public interest? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

FYI, you may submit your comments for the proposal mentioned in this article by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
