This spring we collected willow shoots
From around town. We've been keeping them in buckets of water waiting for them to root so that we can plant them. Looks like they've rooted! Come join the Bookmobile at the Lunch on the Lawn this Thursday and help pot some willows. We'll have examples of willows that we potted over the last couple years too

Say hi and check out the current library of free books when you come to this year's celebration at the park strip. We are close to 10th and G, with our friends at the KDJ Social Justice Library and Alaskans Take a Stand. The festivities run all weekend long, Friday through Sunday from 1-6pm. We'll be there Saturday and Sunday.

This is the first event for us this summer and unofficially kicks off what we expect to be a busy season of pop-ups around downtown Anchorage thanks to support from ACDA's Park It Forward Grant. We'll be posting an updated summer schedule soon.

Entitled “The Energy We Have,” this neighborhood-scale projection installation transforms empty windows into canvases for public art and community dialogue by combining thermal imaging video, film, music, circus arts, and dance.

The installation draws attention to the literal and metaphoric energy, both visible and hidden, that powers our full selves, downtown, and city. While watching thermal video of circus and dance from the street, participants are also asked to reflect on what gives them energy, where their energy comes from, and how they measure energy efficiency.

The project suggests the power and promise of weatherization and energy efficiency technologies to address our community’s looming natural gas crisis, while also cautioning against reductive approaches to residential energy efficiency policy.  Thermal imaging technology is typically used to identify temperature differences in the home, and by extension, places that are opportunities for weatherization. But thermal imaging technology has also been used to survey and control. The art engages with how energy efficiency is quantified and valued and what audiences benefit from current framings. The art project also invites viewers to question the use of thermal imaging technology and imagine other ways that it could

This Sunday's film screening has been canceled due to this week's snow accumulation and forecasted weather. We'll have the amphitheatre cleared and ready for Sunday 2/8 and will combine the best of the films from the final 2 programs into an exciting series finale.
