Today is my last full day in office. I would like to take a moment to say thank you to the people of Anchorage for allowing me to serve as your Mayor for the past 3 years. It truly has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Part of that joy comes from working with the men and women who make this city run. I would like to thank and recognize the many departments of this municipality. Without their hard work and dedication, this city would grind to a halt. Busses would stop moving, the streets would go unpaved, and our little piece of the arctic just wouldn't feel like home.

So, thank you to the men and women of the Municipality of Anchorage.

Yesterday Governor Mike Dunleavy, Lieutenant Governor Nancy Dahlstrom, Senator Lisa Murkowski, the family of Don Young, and others joined me in formally dedicating, and celebrating the renaming of the Port of Alaska to the Don Young Port of Alaska. I am so proud to have had a hand in making this happen.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal moment in history when Allied forces bravely stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. We remember and honor the incredible courage and sacrifice of those who fought for freedom and helped turn the tide of World War II. Their legacy will continue to inspire us.

Today was the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new protected bike lane program. The program is intended to test a protected bike lane connection between the Coastal Trail and the Chester Creek Trail through Downtown expanding access to areas currently challenging to cyclists. Congratulations to the class of 23-2!

At 3PM on Thursday, May 23, 2024, Academy 23-2 graduated with 16 recruits. These new APD officers will begin the Field Training (FTO) portion of their program within the next few days. Once each officer successfully completes that phase, he will become a solo officer. Also participating in

Today is Arbor Day in Alaska! To celebrate, Anchorage Parks and Recreation planted two Crab Apple trees in the town square park. Anchorage is known for its green spaces and these trees will go to continuing that image.

Yesterday I was blessed to be part of the grand opening for The Salvation Army Alaska Division's new Clitheroe Center. This center will serve as a space for individuals to get the help they need in a safe, and therapeutic environment. I am proud to see the ongoing support the Salvation Army gives to our community, and can't wait to hear the success stories that come from this new facility.

Last week I participated in Shoot for the Cure. This nonprofit organization supports individuals living with cystic fibrosis, while spreading much-needed awareness. I am honored to have been a part of such a meaningful cause!
