Today, patients, community members and ANTHC staff gathered to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month and reflect on what activities help us have more good days. Here are a few lessons and practices shared by our relatives:

๐Ÿ˜Œ Taking time to reflect on our words and actions is a way to care for ourselves and for each other.
โค๏ธ Self-care is not about being perfect, it is about doing the best we can with what we have.
๐Ÿค Building and nurturing connections with Elders, friends, families, and our communities contributes to our overall wellness.
๐Ÿซถ Every path to wellness deserves respect.

Thank you to the Naa Luu Disk Gwaii Yatxi Dancers, who performed at the Alaska Native Medical Center. Their music is a powerful reminder of how cultural practices help us have more good days and guide us along our path to wellness. ๐Ÿ’ช

Take a moment to just be...๐Ÿ‘‚๐ŸงŠ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒ€๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿคฒ

Mental health impacts our overall wellness: Our mind, body, and spirit are strongly connected. Taking care of our mental health is about doing the best we can with what we have, one small step at a time. What we can do today is enough.

Finding one's wellness path is a journey. Some practices that can help ground and connect you include:

-Engaging in cultural practices.
-Spending time in nature.
-Movement.
-Being creative.
-Spirituality, faith, or prayer.
-Routines that bring comfort and balance.

During May, ANTHC is promoting activities to honor Mental Health Awareness Month and reflect on the following themes: describe what a good day looks like, caring for the whole self, connecting and empowering communities to work together, and finding one's own path to wellness.

A good day looks different for everyone, and so does how we take care of ourselves. ๐Ÿซถ For some, itโ€™s crafting, for others, itโ€™s being out in nature or spending time with family.

โ€œReally listen to what your body needs,โ€ recommends our Cultural Pride Coordinator, Amelia Simeonoff. โ€œAnd give yourself that space to unwind and reconnect.โ€

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, ANTHC is promoting activities that reflect on our day, connect us with others, and support each otherโ€™s paths to wellness.
