Pflag Anchorage Alaska

Pflag Anchorage Alaska Founded in 1973 after the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the nation's largest family and ally organization. What is PFLAG?

Our mission is simple: To create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians & Gays (PFLAG) is a national non-profit organization with over 250,000 members and supporters and over 500 affiliates in the United States. This vast grassroots network is cultivated, resourced and serviced by the PFLAG national office, located in

Washington, D.C., the national Board of Directors and 14 Regional Directors. PFLAG Anchorage was incorporated under the laws of the State of Alaska in January 1994. Current Board Members:
Dr. Marin Granholm, Lynn Murphy, Bryan Talbot-Clark, Michelle Arnold, Bill Cox. Board Advisor: Tom Rachal

Our Mission:
Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends, through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. PFLAG provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity. We Celebrate Family:
Families come in all shapes and sizes, but all families share one thing - their unconditional acceptance and support for their loved ones. We Educate Society:
We address misconceptions regarding gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people by providing information based on our personal experiences and on science. We speak to individuals, church groups, schools, businesses, and other organizations. We Advocate Equal Rights:
We understand, as our founders did, that the most productive way to effect change is through public advocacy. We advocate for the safety and respect of our loved ones regardless of their sexual orientation. We advocate for the same civil rights for our loved ones that are enjoyed by all citizens. These are not special rights. Meet With Us:
Anchorage PFLAG meets every other month: For meeting times or more information, direct message us here or email us at [email protected]

It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of long time Board member and past Secretary/Treasurer, Tom Rachal on February 9, 2026. He sat on the board for so many years, that even he lost count, but it was at least 20!

He will be sorely missed by all in our community!

On this Giving Tuesday, consider supporting an organization that fights for the rights of our LGBTQ+ loved ones. No gift is too small.

org/givingtuesday

Support our work with a donation this Giving Tuesday—the largest day of global online charitable giving! For over 50 years, PFLAG has been fighting for our LGBTQ+ community, and 2025 has been no exception. In the past year, we have sued President Trump to protect necessary medical care for trans youth under 19; expanded our network with over 40 new chapters, mainly in rural communities; launched our nationwide, grassroots advocacy campaign, Fighting For Our Pride; achieved a major win in Michigan for inclusive education; and so much more.

Your gift will ensure that we keep the momentum going to further our mission of creating a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

This is our moment to fight—for love, for liberty, for each other. 🏳️‍🌈 Give toward our goal of $25,000 for LGBTQ+ people and their families by donating today at pflag.org/GivingTuesday

On this day when we contemplate things we are thankful for, we deeply appreciate our friends Snow City Cafe for thinking about the needs of others in the community by sponsoring a food drive for Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association (Four A's).

You can swing by the Cafe and drop off nutrient-dense snacks or ready to eat/quick cook foods in the bin provided near the host stand.

Feel free to park in the loading zone if you’re not planning on staying for a tasty meal!

We are always thankful for community but especially at this time of year. Please help if you can!

We’re teaming up with Four A’s (Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association) this season to help our neighbors living with HIV stay nourished and supported. ❤️

You can help, too! Drop off nonperishable food items at Snow City Cafe all month long — things like rice, beans, soups, canned fruits and veggies, nut butter, and protein bars go a long way.
Every donation helps build a stronger, more caring community. Let’s fill those bins, Anchorage!

Finally some positive news coming out of the nation’s capital. Marriage equality stands! 🏳️‍🌈

GOOD NEWS: Today, the U.S. Supreme Court declined a request to hear a challenge to marriage equality.

"Today the U.S. Supreme Court did the right thing by dismissing a case questioning settled law that ensures the freedom to marry extends to same-sex couples and in*******al couples.

The freedom to say ‘I do’ is more than just love and commitment. It's also about the right to visit your spouse in the hospital or to make medical decisions. It’s about both parents having legal rights to raise their children. It’s about having access to financial benefits for buying a house or car. The law now needs to catch up so that disabled couples have the freedom to marry without that they may lose access to critical benefits—because love and liberty are inseparable.

Today millions of LGBTQ and in*******al couples can breathe as their marriages remain protected by law. However, LGBTQ+ rights remain under attack on a number of fronts. The chapters, members, and supporters of PFLAG remain unwavering in their commitment to ensuring that every LGBTQ+ person is safe, celebrated, empowered, and loved and that their civil rights are protected by law at every level—local, regional, state, and federal.” - Brian K. Bond (he/him), CEO, PFLAG National

We couldn’t agree more with PFLAG National regarding our trans family members.

Thanks to the caring parents and guardians of nonbinary and transgender kids who joined us for tonight’s Transparent Zoom meeting. It was a delight to see familiar faces and meet new folks too! We’ll be sure to share the date for our December statewide Zoom meeting soon.

2025 has been quite the year for trans awareness. Since Trump’s inauguration, trans people have been THE hot topic—emblazoned in every headline, embroiled in every debate, existing under constant questioning and scrutiny.

Trans identities are not some nebulous thought experiment to criticize or judge. They’re *people*. Trans youth, trans adults, trans elders, trans people of color, trans immigrants, and everyone under the gender nonconforming umbrella are not merely “identities” but real, living people deserving of humanity.

We at PFLAG National stand in our truth: that trans people deserve equity, justice, healthcare, safety, respect, joy, liberation, bodily autonomy, legal protection, safety, housing, employment, education, and above all, a loving and affirming world.

To our trans audience: We love you, we’re here for you, and we’re fighting for you. 🏳️‍⚧️

Our next online Transparent Zoom meeting will be this Tuesday (11/4) from 6-7:30 pm.

For details dm us and we’d be happy to share all the details.

Now more than ever experience the power of community! 🏳️‍⚧️
