PUBLIC ART OPPORTUNITY

Kawerak Inc, on behalf of Unaatuq, LLC., is seeking proposals from local or regional artist contractors for a project to develop and install an art piece (or series of pieces), including a monument(s) and individual gravemarkers, to honor those buried at Pilgrim Hot Springs.

Deadline for proposal submission: May 1st, 2026 at 5pm AKST
Location: Anchorage, Alaska

Kawerak, Inc. is a co-managing owner of Unaatuq, LLC., the consortium that owns Pilgrim Hot Springs. In 2023, the Pilgrim Hot Springs Cultural Advisory Committee was formed, made up of members from around the region who have family or personal ties to the Unaatuq property. The chosen artist for this work will have the opportunity to meet with and engage the committee to learn about their vision for the futurte of the property, and their ideas for honoring the people of the region through this work.

Alaska Pacific University is seeking original Indigenous artwork for the Shel Ch'naq'ahnilu Student Center, located in Grant Hall.
Budget range: $15,000 - $22,000

Alaska Pacific University endeavors to create campus spaces that are welcoming, accessible, and culturally affirming. This project is part of long-term efforts to Indigenize its curriculum and campus environment and to promote student success and retention.

Call for large-scale art:
ABG is looking to award 1 large-scale, semi-permanent outdoor installation in our garden setting. The artist(s) selected will be awarded $45,000 to design, construct, and install their work by September 1, 2025.

Garden Exhibition:
ABG is looking for garden-scale outdoor installations for exhibition in our garden setting. Media need not be visual. However, the display must be ongoing: visitors to the Garden must be able to see, hear, feel, or otherwise experience the installation throughout the display period.

Strap on a helmet and set off on a tour of public art pieces led by Anchorage’s Curator of Public Art, Gideon Gerlt. Participants will pedal to a series of public artworks and hear the stories, histories and community reaction to the selected pieces, which are just a fraction of Anchorage’s public art portfolio.

Free. Thursday, August 8th. Tour begins at the Anchorage Museum and covers four to eight miles; may not be suitable for all riders. Meet at 5 p.m., ride begins at 5:30 p.m. (rain or shine). Bikes not provided. In partnership with Bike Anchorage.

As you spot these beautiful murals painted on Municipality of Anchorage Solid Waste Services dumpsters throughout Anchorage, take a moment to consider the cycle of production, consumption, and waste. What are the environmental impacts and what is our place in that cycle? How would that system look in a circular economy that not only considers the end of a product's life, but plans and designs for it?

🎨🖌️ Last Saturday, the Municipality of Anchorage, Public Art Program hosted event #1 of the live mural painting events. Several local Anchorage artists displayed their talents at the Anchorage Museum Seed Lab, painting dumpsters for the Municipality of Anchorage Solid Waste Services!

🎨 Municipality of Anchorage, Public Art Program Live Mural Painting Events! 📢

As part of the Municipality of Anchorage Solid Waste Services new Central Transfer Station construction, the Municipality of Anchorage’s Public Art Program is proud to announce that 15 murals have been commissioned by Alaskan artists!

The murals will be painted on mobile dumpsters and will be placed throughout Anchorage in prominent locations. Artists will create their stunning works during live painting events held in conjunction with other event activities at two separate locations:

Anchorage Museum, Seed Lab, June 29th, 2024, from 1-6pm
The Nave, Spenard Second Saturday, July 13th, 2024, from 5-10pm

Participating artists include:
Viola Armitstead, Dawn Crandall, Bryce Foks, Jacob Paiz, Ted Kim, Will Kozloff, Stephanie Novak, Christine Sundly, Emily Longbrake, Graham Dane, Scott Clendaniel, Reann Krugger, and Loren McCue

Come to enjoy the artwork in an outdoor setting and learn how you can engage with responsible land stewardship!
