Alaska Tribal Conservation Alliance Strengthening communities through strategic natural resource planning

Since inception in 2011, Alaska Tribal Conservation Alliance(ATCA) has assisted in the formation of 10 TCD’s, making the total TCD count to 14. Alaska TCD’s are in their infant stage with the first Alaska TCD formed in 2005 about 50 years behind their lower 48 counterparts. ATCA and Tyonek Tribal Conservation District have traveled to 10 communities to provide short and long term natural resource planning, Board of Director development and by-law formation and budgets.

Dear Alaska Tribal Conservation Districts and Partners,

The Alaska Tribal Conservation Alliance regrets to inform you that we will be closing permanently, effective July 1, 2020. ATCA has experienced hardship over the last year too consequential for the team to stabilize. We would like to thank all of our partners and the Tribal Conservation Districts for your support over the last 9 years. The ATCA Board of Directors and our team are grateful to have had the opportunity to serve you and beside you over these last few years. Without your guidance and your support, we would not have made it as far as we did.

Tyler and Kyla would personally like to thank each and every one of you. Our time here with ATCA has been a valuable and enriching experience. It has been an honor to have met and worked alongside so many amazing individuals along the way. Tyler and Kyla intend to stay in touch with our partners and the TCDs as they move forward in the professional world. They plan on continuing to advocate for Alaska’s TCDs and the tribal conservation movement occurring across the state. Tyler and Kyla hope to work with you all again someday, until then we hope you are successful in all of your hard work in improving and sustaining the livelihoods for Alaska Natives and their lands.

Best Regards,

Alaska Tribal Conservation Alliance

Last week, ATCA's VISTA was able to travel to the Oneida Nation for the National Food Sovereignty Summit! The three day event focused on the intersection of agriculture, conservation education and tradition, and featured speakers from all over Indian Country, as well as National non-profit organizations.
It was an honor to be able to learn from indigenous knowledge holders, and to be inspired by community led efforts to preserve the right to have healthy lands and healthy people.
One experiential learning session even allowed us to seed wild rice in a wetland restoration site!
Thank you so much to First Nations Development Institute for making this experience possible.
We can’t wait to attend next year!
