Honoring Chin’an — “thank you” in Upper Cook Inlet Dena’ina — by sharing messages of gratitude from across our school community for those who make an impact every day 💙

This week’s message spotlights Stephanie Wooten, a teacher at College Gate Elementary!

"I would like to take a moment to formally recognize a vital and invaluable member of our College Gate Learning Team: Stephanie Wooten. Having dedicated nearly twenty years of service to College Gate Elementary, Mrs. Wooten has made a profound and lasting impact on our students, staff, and the broader community. Throughout her impressive tenure, she has served in numerous capacities, most recently stepping up to lead as our Activities Coordinator. College Gate has a long-standing tradition of providing an outstanding and memorable learning experience. When our alumni return to visit, they consistently reflect on how transformative their time was as students here. When asked what makes College Gate so exceptional, they invariably point to our extraordinary community events. Thanks to an incredible team effort and exceptional coordination, we are proud to offer a wide array of signature programs, including:

• Athletics & Wellness: Jog-A-Thon, Turkey Trot, and Girls on the Run
• Community & Family Engagement: Family Engagement Nights, June in January, and Multicultural Day
• Student Celebrations: Monster Mash, Barnes & Noble Day, Chuck E. Cheese Night, Field Day, Fifth Grade Celebration, and the Alumni Graduation Celebrations.
• Staff & Community Fellowship: Staff Holiday Parties and the All-School Barbecue

As this extensive list demonstrates, our staff consistently goes above and beyond to make the student experience truly exceptional. Mrs. Wooten has been a foundational pillar in bringing these events to life for two decades. In her recent leadership role as coordinator, she has not only met expectations but has truly excelled.

It is with deep admiration, respect, and gratitude that I extend a sincere Quyana to our College Gate Activities Coordinator, Stephanie Wooten. Thank you, Stephanie—your unwavering commitment and profound dedication to the College Gate Learning Community do not go unnoticed."

The Anchorage School District's AEA/ASD Mentoring Program helps new and transitioning educators thrive by connecting them with experienced peer mentors who provide guidance, encouragement, and professional support. Through a collaborative and non-evaluative approach, the program helps educators build confidence, strengthen their practice, and successfully navigate the challenges of the profession.

By investing in educators, ASD is investing in students. Strong mentoring helps retain high-quality teachers, supports professional growth, and ensures students have access to excellent learning experiences in every classroom.

Thank you to the mentors and educators who are helping build a culture of learning, collaboration, and success across ASD!
