The Municipal Clerk’s Office has launched the online registration portal Visit www.muni.org/str to get started.

Short term rentals currently in operation, including previously permitted bed and breakfasts, must register by July 30, 2026 using the free online application.

Approved by the Anchorage Assembly in December 2025, AO 2025-115(S-2) requires all short term rental listings and advertisements to include a municipal registration number by July 31, 2026, regardless of platform.

To complete registration, you will need
• Property address
• Type of unit such as bedroom, house, townhouse, duplex, or condo
• Whether the owner lives on site
• Whether the rental is seasonal or year round
• Whether it has been rented long term in the past year
• Owner name or names
• Local contact name and phone number
• Confirmation that all information provided is true and complete

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received. Once approved, each rental will be issued a unique municipal STR number.

Starting July 31, 2026, short term rentals cannot be listed or advertised on any platform without this registration number

A short term rental is defined as a furnished unit rented for fewer than 30 consecutive days

Get Involved: Volunteers Needed for the Board of Equalization

Did you know that nearly 2,000 property tax assessment appeals have already been filed for 2026 here in Anchorage?

Behind the scenes, a dedicated group of residents helps review these appeals and ensure property assessments are fair and accurate.

Right now, that group the Board of Equalization is in need of more members to support this important work.

With only 9 of 21 seats filled, there’s a real opportunity for community members to step in and make a meaningful impact.

⚖️ What does the Board do?
The Board of Equalization is a quasi-judicial body that hears property tax assessment appeals.

When a property owner believes their assessment is incorrect, a panel of board members reviews the case and determines whether an adjustment should be made.

Who should apply?
We’re looking for residents with experience in:
Real estate
Banking or lending
Law
Engineering
Tax or property valuation

What’s the time commitment?
•3-year term
•Seasonal work (primarily April through the appeal period)
•Flexible scheduling with meetings held mornings, afternoons, evenings, or weekends
•In-person at City Hall (some telephonic participation possible)

📣 How to apply
Interested residents can submit a cover letter and resume to the Municipal Clerk’s Office at [email protected]

This is a unique opportunity to support fairness, transparency, and trust in our local systems, while using your skills to serve the community.
