Across Alaska, people are showing up for one another in ways that honor life, community, and healing with support from the GCI Su***de Prevention Fund powered by the Alaska Community Foundation.

Gold Star Peak, Inc., a past grant recipient, brings Veterans, active duty service members, and families who have lost a loved one in military service together to remember, reflect, and connect. In the quiet of the land, stories are shared, bonds are strengthened, and people are reminded they are not alone. It’s a space grounded in understanding, where healing can begin, together.

If your organization is working to support mental health and prevent su***de, we invite you to apply today at https://alaskacf.org/grants/ -gci-su***de-prevention-may-1-jun-15.

Applications open May 1 – June 15

Meet the four new voices guiding our next chapter at the Alaska Community Foundation. Leaders whose roots run deep in Alaska and whose vision reaches far.

Dr. Pearl K. Brower, President & CEO, Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation — a PhD in Indigenous Leadership and former president of Alaska's only tribal college, Pearl has devoted her career to advancing Alaska Native success, building institutional strength, and investing in communities for generations to come.

Victor Joseph, COO, Tanana Chiefs Conference — a longtime health and tribal leader guided by a simple, powerful belief: that healthy people become empowered people. For two decades, Victor has shown up for interior Alaska communities — from village health clinics all the way to the U.S. Senate.

Lisa Parker, President, Parker Horn Company — a lifelong Alaskan, Alaska Women's Hall of Fame inductee, and someone who has spent decades rolling up her sleeves for this state. From resource development to civic leadership, Lisa knows how to turn commitment into lasting impact.

Rita De La Torre, CPA & Director, Swalling & Associates, PC — with 35+ years serving Alaska businesses and Native corporations, Rita brings the kind of careful, principled stewardship that ensures every dollar entrusted to this work is honored — today and for generations to come.

Welcome, Pearl, Victor, Lisa, and Rita. We're honored to have you. 💙

Grateful for two special evenings of connection and shared love for Alaska.

In Tucson and Scottsdale, Alaskans gathered to reflect on the parts of Alaska that stay with them — from family and fishing to community and culture. Hearing those stories was a powerful reminder: Alaska is not just where we live, it is part of who we are.

Together, we explored simple, meaningful ways generosity can support Alaska’s people, communities, and landscapes, now and for future generations.

A heartfelt thank you to our generous hosts, Janelle Pfleiger and Lon Wilson in Tucson, and Mark and Desiree Pfeffer and Peggy Young in Scottsdale, who welcomed everyone so warmly and reminded us that wherever we are, we remain part of Alaska’s story.

We’re honored to help carry that story forward.

For Alaska. Forever.

Surrounded by many of Alaska’s most influential women leaders, we celebrated the 2026 class of the Anchorage ATHENA Society. From former justices to CEOs, Olympic medalists to public health leaders, these women are shaping Alaska for the next generation.

We are especially proud to celebrate Alexandra McKay, President & CEO of the Alaska Community Foundation, and Jessica Graham, ACF Board Member and Executive Vice President & Chief Risk Officer at Global Credit Union.

The ATHENA Award honors leadership that lifts others. Alex and Jessica embody that every day — strengthening communities, guiding thoughtful decisions, and helping ensure Alaska’s future is shaped by care, connection, and opportunity.

Congratulations to all the 2026 ATHENA inductees. We’re proud to share this space with you and grateful for the leadership shaping Alaska now and for generations to come.

For Alaska. Forever.

From Girdwood to Eklutna, hundreds of miles of soft-surface trails connect people to the outdoors. Grants from the Anchorage Trail Care Fund support summer maintenance and construction projects that keep these well-loved, high-use trails safe, sustainable, and accessible. By investing in on-the-ground work, the Anchorage Trail Care Fund helps ensure our trail system stays adventure-ready for everyone who walks, runs, bikes, and hikes all year long.

Anchorage Trail Care Grant Application is open February 15–March 31.

We often say at Alaska Community Foundation that camps are more than just a seasonal activity — they’re a rite of passage and a powerful way to strengthen community. The Áa yei kunéxch yé camp, in Juneau, meaning “place where the people heal,” embodies this deeply.

Born from community grief and revitalization, this five-day family day camp, put on by Haa Tóoch Lichéesh - We believe it is possible, brought together over 40 participants for intergenerational healing, cultural celebration, and connection.

Together, participants harvested and prepared traditional foods, made medicines, sang and danced, created art, and shared ceremonies honoring both grief and joy. Elders and youth worked side by side, found space to rest, and the whole community was uplifted by care.

When Western Alaska needed support, people showed up.

More than 21,000 individuals gave to the Western Alaska Disaster Relief Fund. They gave from every U.S. state, from every province in Canada, and from 37 countries around the world.

But the most remarkable thing isn’t the geography. It’s the intention behind the donations.

These gifts were personal—people giving, because they have a connection to Alaska, because they believe in showing up when communities are facing hardship, because they care. Some gifts were large. Many were small. All of them mattered.

This outpouring of generosity is a reminder that even in difficult moments, people are paying attention. They are listening. And they are willing to act.

To everyone who gave: thank you for standing with Western Alaska. Your generosity traveled a long way—and it is making a real difference.
