5th grader, Joshua Payton, wrote a persuasive essay on why he should be principal for the day. After submissions, revisions, and strong final draft submission, his request was approved. Mr. Payton and Dr. Arroyo agreed to switch places today. Things started off well, then the new 5th grader, Nikki Arroyo, was caught with her cellphone and was not meeting NPES RAMS expectations. Mr. Payton explained that, "we are RAMS and we do not act that way in his school." Nikki spent time in ABI to reflect on her actions and learn some deescalation strategies. 3 hours into the switch, Mr. Payton announced his early retirement so he could enjoy some time with his friends. He learned that there is no time to sit down, there is always a need, and somehow, there are always snacks laying around. Great job, Mr. Payton. Welcome back, Dr. Arroyo!

In March, students selected what they wanted to work for when they took Spring iReady. They were given the option of skating, bowling, hanging out with their friends and Kona Ice, or playing outside with the Westside Athletes and Kona Ice. We called this, "The Day of Fun." Our students had a blast! Seeing their smiles and watching them celebrate how hard they have worked was so amazing! Big shout out to our PTO for sponsoring this event! Also, shout out to Coach West at Westside High School for setting up athletes. They were amazing with our students, were patient, played all the games, pushed them on the swings, listened to the stories, answered all the questions, and made our kids feel special!

More art growth at NPES thanks to the SC Arts Commission! Another grant funded cameras for our students! They learned how to hold the cameras and about the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds helps with framing a photo. Mrs. Higgins class practiced taking pictures and now these prints are on display in our school!
