URGENT PUBLIC NOTICE WATER ALERT
CITY OF ANDERSON WATER DEPARTMENT
REQUEST FOR VOLUNTARY WATER USE REDUCTION
The City of Anderson is currently experiencing a reduction in available water. The Anderson Water Department is asking residents and businesses to voluntarily reduce their current water usage by 25% to allow water towers/tanks to refill, build and maintain proper water pressure and to ensure the water needed for emergency fire protection is available. It is believed that customer compliance of this request for a period of 5-7 days will result in the return of sufficient capacity and avoid further action.
Due to the extreme and prolonged cold weather, aging infrastructure, ongoing remediation efforts, and winter drought-like conditions, we are experiencing this temporary, but significant water capacity reduction. This reduction has resulted in a lower water storage volume in our tanks, reduced pressure at some residences and businesses, and an overall reduced water capacity for residents and businesses.
Many residents and businesses over the last few days have been running water due to the extreme cold to avoid water pipes from busting. Coupled with other typical uses, bathing, laundry and dish washing, and car washing has collectively resulted in this shortage of capacity.
The City and Water Department understand the need for some of our customers to run water during this extremely freezing weather to avoid damage to their internal plumbing. We therefore recommend you reduce other water usage over the next approximate 7 days, by reducing the number of loads of laundry or dishes, wash only full loads, turn off water during normal tasks like brushing teeth, shaving, washing vegetables or dishes by hand; take shorter showers, avoiding car washing, and as temperatures rise turn off dripping water. Additionally, checking for leaks in toilets and sinks is always a great way to reduce lost water and save money.
Businesses should follow the same efforts to reduce consumption and promote conservation.
All of these steps can help us reach the 25% reduction goal for the week.
Your voluntary assistance will aid the city in building back our water supply.
Thank you for your cooperation.
