🌿💧 Citizen Science Saturday is here! 💧🌿

Volunteer with us this Saturday for Adopt-A-Stream at Rocky River Nature Park as we collect aquatic insects, test water samples, and explore the life of the stream. This is a fun hands-on way to help protect local waterways while learning real field science.

🌱 Big THANK YOU to an incredible group of volunteers who came out to support tree planting at Rocky River Nature Park!

With the help of TreesUpstate, Rocky River Conservancy, Master Gardeners, Anderson University, and dedicated community members, we planted 33 trees that will grow, provide habitat, and serve this community for years to come.

Days like this remind us what can happen when people come together with a shared purpose—restoration, stewardship, and connection to the land.

We’re grateful for each of you who showed up, got your hands dirty, and made a lasting impact. 🌳💚

🌿🐾 NEW at Rocky River Nature Park! 🐦🌳

We’re excited to introduce our Kids in Parks TRACK Trail at Rocky River Nature Park!

This new interactive program is designed to get kids and families outside, exploring, and learning together. Along the trail, you’ll find our brand-new kiosk stocked with fun, educational brochures that turn a simple walk into an outdoor adventure.

📚 What’s the program about?

The Kids in Parks TRACK Trail is a nationwide initiative that:
• Encourages kids to explore nature through self-guided activities
• Promotes healthy outdoor recreation
• Rewards participation with TRACK Trail prizes

🧭 What are the brochures for?

Each brochure is a hands-on field guide to help kids engage with the park:
• 🐸 Herps – Discover amphibians & reptiles
• 🐦 Birds of Rocky River Park – Spot and identify local birds
• 🌳 The Need for Trees – Learn why trees matter
• 🌊 Rivers Through the Ages – Explore how rivers shape the land

These guides help kids observe, think, and interact with the natural world—not just walk through it.

👣 How it works
1. Grab a brochure at the kiosk
2. Follow the activities along the trail
3. Track your adventure online
4. Earn prizes for your discoveries 🎉

This is a big step forward in making the park an outdoor classroom for our community—and we can’t wait to see families out there exploring together.

👉 Come check it out and start your first TRACK Trail adventure!

Seeding day at the Scout Garden 🌱🦋

Today we planted a Monarch Butterfly seed mix along with native Southeastern wildflowers here at Rocky River Nature Park. This micro-meadow will support monarchs, native pollinators, and the next generation of naturalists learning how healthy habitats are built.

We will have another “seeding stomp” event open to volunteers for our large meadow by the apiary, so keep engaged here for our next event!

Grateful for these amazing Girl Scouts who showed up ready to work, learn, and care for creation. Small seeds… big impact. 🌼

Restoring land is often about knowing when to step back — and when to help a little. 🌿

This area at the Scout Garden was once a compacted right-of-way with very little ecological value. Through careful native plant introductions, light soil management, and ongoing stewardship, it’s transitioning into a native wildflower space designed for pollinators, education, and future self-sustainability.

We use this site to teach young naturalists that conservation isn’t always “hands off.” Sometimes it means gently re-introducing native species, improving soil health, and guiding the land until natural processes can take over again.

Our goal: a thriving native wildflower garden that supports pollinators, builds soil, and serves as a living classroom for the next generation of environmental stewards. 🐝🌼

Small steps. Native plants. Long-term impact.

❄️ Trail Update – Saturday 1/31/26 ❄️

Due to forecasted snow and icy conditions, this Saturday’s trail maintenance volunteer event at Rocky River Nature Park is canceled. Safety comes first, and conditions just aren’t right for tools or footing.

If you head out to enjoy the park instead, please use extra caution—trails may be slick, shaded areas icy, and downed branches possible. Take it slow, stick to your comfort level, and enjoy the winter beauty responsibly.

Thanks for understanding, and we’ll see you soon when conditions improve. Until then—be careful and have fun ❄️💛

⚠️ Park Safety Notice – Ice Storm Impacts ⚠️

While we prepare for the coming ice storm, we want to remind our friends to use extra caution when visiting Rocky River Nature Park. ❄️🌳 It’s tempting to visit for the beauty, but hazards pose a risk.

• Fallen trees and hanging branches may be present along trails
• Boardwalks will be slick and icy
• Conditions can change quickly as ice melts and trees shift

We encourage visitors to delay their visit if conditions feel unsafe and always prioritize personal safety. Thank you for helping us keep RRNP a safe place for everyone.

Stay safe, and we’ll see you on the trails soon. 💚
