Dr. Hochstetler was a great man…he will be missed!

Anderson University is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Jay Hochstetler, professor of management.

Dr. Hochstetler joined the AU faculty in 2007. Known by faculty, staff, students, and alumni as a joyful, compassionate professor and friend, Jay lived his life as an example to everyone he met by the way that he remained steadfast in his relationship with Christ. As Jay once wrote:

“Biblical perspectives are not counter to good business practices; they are the embodiment of good business practices. When I find myself in a dilemma, I always ask, ‘What is the right thing to do?’ With God’s guidance, the answer to that question can be found. The amazing thing is that as we conduct ourselves with that question as our guiding compass, we find that short-term losses from doing the right thing turn into long-term gains.”

Dr. Hochstetler was honored with the John A. Morrison Award at the conclusion of the 2022-23 academic year. The Morrison Award is designed to recognize faculty and staff who go beyond excellence in performance and have demonstrated a commitment to something larger than themselves.
