Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

This morning’s Memorial Day Service at Anderson Cemetery, hosted by VFW Post 9650, was a powerful reflection of remembrance and gratitude. The Avenue of Flags stands as a moving tribute to the men and women who gave everything in service to our nation.

Thank you to Anderson VFW Post 9650, the volunteers, speakers, veterans, families, and community members who helped make today’s ceremony so meaningful.

Today, we remember.
Always, we honor. 🇺🇸

With winds and up to 40-50 mph gusts this weekend, please use caution around flames or while using any equipment that could create sparks. Might want to secure the patio furniture too!

We've issued a Wind Advisory for portions of the Sacramento Valley and Delta from 11pm tonight through 8pm Sunday. Expect north winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, strongest along and west of I-5. Use caution while driving, especially in high profile vehicles!

🔥 Burn Season is Closing Friday, May 8th at 5pm 🔥

As temperatures rise and vegetation continues to dry out, open burning is now closed for the season.

Hotter weather and low fuel moisture significantly increase the risk of fast-moving wildfires — even from small or seemingly controlled burns.

Please help protect our community by:
🚫 Avoiding open burning
🚫 Never leaving outdoor flames unattended
🚫 Using caution with equipment that may create sparks
🚫 Properly disposing of ci******es and ashes

Wildfire prevention starts with all of us.

Thank you for helping keep Anderson safe this fire season.

🚒 Not every classic was built for show.
Some were built to answer 911 calls.

Meet Engine No. 2 — Anderson Fire’s vintage Ford, one of the department’s original engines.

She may not have a trophy shelf… but she’s got something better: history. Built in the late 1940s, this engine responded to real emergencies in Anderson long before modern apparatus, GPS dispatch, or the technology we rely on today. She ran on skill, grit, and the commitment of the firefighters who drove her.

She may be retired but she’s still turning heads and loves to show up for Anderson. 💛

This week, Anderson Fire personnel partnered with Anderson Police Department and Code Enforcement to identify and address illegal encampments.

While these efforts are often focused on health, safety, and connecting individuals with available resources, they also play an important role in fire prevention.

Encampments can present increased fire risk due to:

Open flames used for cooking or warmth
Improperly stored flammable materials
Limited access to water or fire suppression tools
Close proximity of tents and debris

By proactively visiting these areas, our crews are able to:
Identify and reduce fire hazards before they escalate
Provide education on safer practices
Help clear excessive debris and combustible materials
Coordinate with partners to improve overall site safety

These collaborative efforts are about protecting everyone in our community—including our most vulnerable residents—and reducing the risk of fires that could spread beyond encampments into surrounding neighborhoods and open spaces.

We appreciate the continued partnership with Anderson PD and remain committed to prevention, education, and service.
