📍 Historic Marker Unveiling for “General’s Road” – Today, Thursday, May 28th at 6 PM! Anderson County and the Anderson County Museum will unveil the new historic marker at the corner of Main Street and Whitner Street beside the Historic Anderson County Courthouse.
The marker is being installed in celebration of Anderson County’s Bicentennial and commemorates the historic route once known as General’s Road.
Originally established in the 1780s, General’s Road connected Abbeville to the home of General Andrew Pickens at Tomassee (Tamassee) in present-day Oconee County. The route played an important role in the growth and development of the Upstate, contributing to the success of early settlements, the establishment of plantations and inns, and the emergence of communities such as Pendleton and Anderson before the arrival of the railroad in the 1850s.
