đź’™ Thank You, CenterPoint Energy!

This winter, 300 households in our community received Operation Weatherization Do-It-Yourself Kits thanks to the generous support of CenterPoint Energy.

Distributed through our THRIVE and Community Resiliency partners, these kits included items like indoor window plastic, caulk, spray foam, door sweeps, heavy plastic, duct tape, and blankets — simple tools that make a big difference in keeping homes warm and energy bills manageable.

And the impact speaks for itself:
🏠 95% reported their homes felt warmer
đź’ˇ 90% reported lower energy bills

As one participant shared:
“Normally after my furnace shuts down I feel a substantial amount of draft and cold air moving through our house. Weatherization stops the drafts.”

Another told us:
“My house stayed warmer and my utilities were down.”

Thank you, CenterPoint Energy, for helping neighbors stay warm and safe this winter.

🎓 Connecting Students to Future Opportunities 🎓

Last night, both Kim and Kim from Heart of Indiana United Way had a great time attending a career fair at Anderson Community Schools! Events like this are a powerful way to connect with students, share resources, and talk about the many paths that can lead to a successful future.

We loved meeting students, answering questions, and sharing how education, community support, and career exploration all play a role in building thriving futures. 💼✨

Thank you to Anderson Community Schools for inviting us to be part of such an inspiring day!

“I’m not afraid to speak now.”
When Lizbeth first joined a THRIVE parenting group, she was shy and struggling with anxiety. With encouragement from her coaches, she found her voice — and her strength.
Sometimes support changes everything.

Spring is coming in fast and comes with a side of unpredictable weather. While there is a chance for storms this afternoon, this mornings tornado sirens are just for practice. It’s a good reminder to be weather aware and to check your key safety items.

Core Safety Items
NOAA Weather Radio & Charger: Battery-powered or hand-crank radio to stay updated.
Flashlights/Lanterns: With extra batteries, crucial for power outages.
First Aid Kit: Including antiseptic wipes and, crucially, personal prescription medications.
Water & Non-Perishable Food: At least a 3-day supply, with a manual can opener.
Emergency Documents: Insurance policies, medical records, and IDs in a waterproof container.
Whistle & Multi-tool: To signal for help and for utility shutoffs.

At 10:15 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) will issue a test tornado warning alert, which will be shared through most notification systems, including the statewide Emergency Alert System (EAS). Delaware County's Outdoor Warning Sirens will sound at this time.

There will be no weekly test on Friday March 13th 2026.

“In communities like ours, literacy is not optional—it is transformational.” — WaTasha Barnes Griffen 📚

This weekend, Heart of Indiana United Way joined families and community members at Terrestrial Temple COGIC to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the newly installed Dr. Benjamin Terry Walker Library.

Through this partnership—and generous funding from The George and Frances Ball Foundation—a wide variety of books for all ages are now available for the community to borrow anytime the church is open, and one Saturday each month from 10 AM–2 PM.

Moments like this remind us that United Is The Way to honoring legacy and creating opportunities through literacy. đź’™

It was a busy weekend for Heart of Indiana United Way! 🎉

Annie Wood-Bell joined Jena Ashby from Nonprofit Support Network to present “Follow That Data! Closing the Feedback Loop,” during this years IDEA Conference. Together they shared how we collect and use data, and—just as importantly—how we involve our community and nonprofit partners throughout the process.

By listening, learning, and working together, we take collective ownership of what the data tells us and how we can more effectively support individuals and families across the communities we serve. đź’™
