Anderson Police Department will hold a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint somewhere in the City of Anderson, on June 2nd, 2026 starting 6:00 p.m.

The Anderson Police Department encourages the public to be responsible and never drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, including ma*****na. Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes, DUI arrests, and traffic patterns. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, with officers checking drivers for proper licensing, delaying motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving, which now accounts for a growing number of impaired driving crashes. Everyone should be mindful that if you’re taking medication – whether prescription or over-the-counter – drinking even small amounts of alcohol can greatly intensify the impairment effects.

If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home. Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Highway Patrol-"Cannabis Tax Fund Law Enforcement Grant".

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month. 💜

Join us on Tuesday, June 16, at 8:30 a.m. as we plant purple flags at the southwest corner of North Street and East Center Street in Anderson to raise awareness of and show support for older adults in our community.

Each purple flag represents one reported case of elder abuse last year. It is a reminder that awareness, prevention, and reporting matter.

The public is welcome to attend, wear purple, and help plant flags.

🫶 Also during Elder Abuse Awareness Month, the Shasta County District Attorney's Office is accepting non-perishable food donations for its annual food drive benefiting local seniors. Donations can be dropped off through June 11 at the DA's Office, 1355 West Street in Redding.

Every older adult deserves dignity, respect, and protection.

We hope to see you there.

Memorial Day is a time to pause, remember, and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Here in Anderson, the flags placed at Anderson District Cemetery are a solemn reminder of the cost of the freedoms we enjoy today.

We are grateful for all who have worn the uniform, and especially mindful today of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their courage, sacrifice, and legacy will never be forgotten.

For decades, peace officers, families, and community members across Shasta County have gathered at the old Courthouse to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

This photo, shared by the Shasta County Peace Officers Memorial Coalition, captures one of those moments from years past.

Uniforms and faces may change over time, but the purpose remains the same: to stand together, remember the fallen, and ensure their service is never forgotten.

Today, and every Peace Officer Memorial Day, we remember their service and sacrifice.

Short Vehicle Pursuit Leads To Collision With APD Patrol Vehicle

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, at approximately 10:58 PM, Anderson Police officers were at the 1700 block of Bruce Drive finishing an unrelated call for service when they heard a vehicle approaching their location at a high rate of speed. The officers observed the vehicle was also traveling with no headlights on during dark hours as it traversed Highway 273. Officers quickly got into their patrol vehicles and attempted to catch up to the suspect vehicle in an effort to conduct an enforcement stop, however the driver fled westbound Bruce Drive and failed to stop at the stop sign at Emily Drive.

As the suspect vehicle neared Pinion Avenue, it conducted an illegal U-turn and drove in the oncoming lane directly at officers. The first pursuing officer was able to narrowly avoid a head on collision by maneuvering onto the shoulder of the roadway. However, the second officer’s vehicle was struck head on by the suspect vehicle causing minor injuries to the officer.

The suspect then kept on the accelerator even though the vehicle was disabled in the roadway causing a large plum of smoke. As the smoke began to dissipate, officers were able to safely extract the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, who was identified as Kayla Jean Sturges, 37-year-old from Anderson.

Officers quickly assessed Sturges for injuries and provided medical care until responding paramedics and Anderson Fire arrived on scene. Sturges was ultimately transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

A search of Sturges’ vehicle revealed approximately 10.1 grams of m**hamphetamine and several m**h pipes. Additionally, she was found to be operating the vehicle without a valid driver's license.

Charges filed against Sturges will be for the following: 2800.2 CVC- Felony vehicle pursuit, 2800.4 CVC- Driving the wrong way during a vehicle pursuit, 12500(a) CVC- Driving unlicensed, 23103 CVC- Driving reckless causing injury, 11377(a) HS- Possession of m**hamphetamine, 11364(a) HS- Possession of drug paraphernalia.

National Police Week is a time to remember the officers across this country who gave their lives in the line of duty and honor the sacrifice carried by the families, friends, and departments they left behind.

We also stand alongside our fellow agencies across Shasta County and the North State in recognizing those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

They will not be forgotten.
