Less than Two Weeks Left for Indiana Residents to Apply for FEMA Assistance

Residents in Carroll, Cass, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Pike, Porter, Pulaski, Putnam, Randolph, Rush, Tipton, Union and Wayne counties who have been affected by the August 11 – 24, 2026 storms, tornadoes and flooding have less than two weeks left to apply for FEMA assistance. Application deadline is Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026.

Financial assistance is available for eligible survivors who need help covering uninsured costs for things like home repairs, personal property, vehicle damage, medical expenses including accessibility items, moving and storage and reimbursement for temporary housing.

How to apply for FEMA Assistance:
Apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. If you use a relay service give FEMA your number for that service. In-person help is available at support sites for submitting and updating documentation and asking questions regarding your case.

What to Expect Before Applying for FEMA Assistance |
To apply for a low-interest disaster loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Disaster Recovery (SBA) apply online at MySBA Loan Portal or sba.gov/disaster or call the Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955.

People who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability may dial 711 to access telecommunications relay services.

If your home was impacted by the August disaster and are still in need of housing assistance, please contact Indiana 211 by Monday, Oct. 19 to apply for IHCDA's hotel voucher.

The last day to apply for IHCDA's hotel voucher is Monday, Oct. 19.

If you are a survivor still in need of temporary housing assistance, please apply for FEMA's Individual Assistance by visiting DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362.

Portions of central Indiana generally south of I-70 have been upgraded to a slight risk for severe weather this afternoon with damaging winds the primary threat. Multiple rounds of storms are possible with the severe threat likely to end later this evening from the west.

Thunderstorm chances will persist this afternoon. Better chances for stronger storms are expected late this afternoon and evening.

CSX ANNOUNCES RAILROAD CROSSING CLOSURES – PLEASE PLAN AHEAD

CSX Transportation has notified the City of Anderson of upcoming temporary railroad crossing closures as CSX performs scheduled maintenance and repairs. Work affecting Anderson is expected to take place October 19 through November 1, with each individual crossing generally expected to be closed for approximately 48–72 hours.

CSX is solely responsible for the maintenance of its railways, railroad crossings, and these closures. Local government has no control over the railroad as they are governed by federal law.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time and follow all posted detours and traffic-control signage.

Please note: This is a CSX project and their schedule may change based on railroad operations, weather, or construction progress.

City of Anderson is sharing this information as a public service to ensure our residents, businesses and emergency personnel can prepare for the temporary closures and travel safely. We will continue to share information provided by CSX as it becomes available.

An area of showers and thunderstorms in eastern IL will move along I-70 into central Indiana through mid-afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall, cloud to ground lightning and wind gusts to 40 mph will be possible. A line of strong thunderstorms near St. Louis will move east and enter western Indiana after 3 PM, with a greater threat for severe weather.

A Level 2 out of 5 Risk of severe weather exists today across southeast Illinois and southern Indiana. Thunderstorms capable of severe wind gusts are forecast this afternoon/evening, and a tornado or two are possible.
