Today was the final Senior Presentation at Iola High School. Constable Pct 1 James Ellis joined our Chief Investigator John Wren to co-present this valuable information.

Our office considers this presentation for our local seniors to be a important public service. It is our goal to empower our local students with information about police interactions and criminal law that commonly effects young adults or causes them to come in contact with law enforcement. We hope with this information they will make more informed decisions as they move ahead with their future as adults!

Thank you Constable Ellis for being part of this program and also SRO Montgomery for helping coordinate the presentation date!

Also included are photos from the Navasota and Anderson/Shiro presentations done earlier in the semester.

I would also like to thank all of the local school districts for continuing to invite us out to put on these presentations for their students.

Exceptional job by former Grimes County Sheriff’s Investigator Cameron Parham gathering the evidence to make this case!

Well done to Assistant DA Tammy Thomas for securing a maximum prison sentence on 4 out of the 5 charges, including both of the Thefts! Theft between $30k and $150k is a 3rd Degree Felony, which carries a range of punishment of 2 years to 10 years in prison.

This is the first real estate fraud case our office has received. This type of crime has been happening across the State of Texas. Local property owners can register for a FREE PROPERTY FRAUD ALERT SERVICE through the Grimes County Clerk’s Office at: https://grimes.tx.publicsearch.us/property-alert

If you sign up, you will get notified against potentially fraudulent claims or transactions regarding real property and receive email alerts any time your personal or entity name is used in a real property filing within Grimes County. If you need assistance signing up, contact the Grimes County Clerk’s Office at 936-873-4410.

Note- Case details have been kept minimal in this press release deliberately because the co-defendant’s case is still pending.

It has been a real joy watching the Anderson/Shiro community, local businesses and so many different public safety agencies come together over the past few months to put on the Shattered Dreams Program at Anderson/Shiro High School for the first time in many years.

This endeavor started with a handful of community members being passionate about bringing this program back, which led to many meetings after hours with a small group working together with the school Administrators to put the pieces together to make it happen.

These are a handful of photos taken by our Chief Investigator yesterday during the crash portion of the program. You can see how many different agencies were there working together and how realistic they made the scene.

The last photo is Chief Investigator John Wren, Crime Victims Coordinator Brenda Williams, County Court at Law Judge Tuck McLain and I in the school gym this morning. Our contribution to the Shattered Dreams program was putting on the mock trial to show students a glimpse of what the judicial process looks like and what consequences someone will face if they chose to drink and drive. We will add a few photos from the mock trial when they are available.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the volunteers spearheading this program, who first asked our office to participate and also to the Anderson/Shiro CISD Administrators, who invited us to be part of the program.

DWIs and offenses involving intoxicated drivers are very important to our team and so is community outreach with the youth of Grimes County. It was an honor to get to participate in this program and we would welcome a future invitation to participate again.

If the program saves one life or causes one student to make a better decision about drinking and driving, all of the effort was worth it.

Well done to Deputy Constable Todd Moon (former NPD Officer) and NPD Investigator James Byrd for their work getting this guy off the roads the night of the arrest.

Well done to DA Chief Investigator John Wren for the many hours he put into deep diving through the evidence in this case and finding strong new evidence of guilt for the State to use.

DWIs are something I care about passionately as District Attorney. We see too many innocent people injured and lives lost because someone chose to drink and drive. I hope this sentence makes clear that habitual DWI offenders will face prison time in Grimes County.
